More Information about PreK - Grade 3 Return
The staff is thrilled to have our Dolphins return to the building again! We hope that the transition will be an easy one. Here is additional information for students returning on February 1, 2021.
What does my child need to bring?
PreK: iPads, chargers and headphones may stay at home for now; regular supplies should be brought each day.
Grades K-3:
iPad, charger, headphones, basic school supplies, water bottle, any materials that your child's teacher has requested; please check your child's Google Classroom for specifics..
What schedule will my child follow?
There are no schedule changes at this time. Instruction for first and second grade begins at 9:00 AM. Instruction for PreK, K, and 3 begins at 10:15 AM. Students who are in-person will get off the bus as soon as they arrive and go directly to the classroom for breakfast and unpacking.
What about breakfast/lunch?
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all in-person students. On Tuesdays, one day of food for Asynchronous Wednesday will be sent.
Is there recess?
We will continue with the breaks that are built in to the schedule. Teachers may choose to take students outside for an organized game or time to stretch. If students are socially distanced, they may take off their masks while outside. Currently, the equipment is not being used.
I know there are other questions that I have not included, so as we move forward, please continue to reach out with your questions. For additional information about the decision to return to school, here is the press release.
Changes!
• Virtual instruction to in-person;
• In-person instruction to virtual;
• Day care changes;
• Emergency contact numbers/names;
• Address changes;
• Car rider to a bus;
• Bus to car rider (contact the school for a car number).
If you have a car rider number, please remember that it must be shown when you are picking up your child each day. Thank you for your assistance as we plan for the "first day of school".
More Information about Grades 4 and 5
Thank you for your patience as we work through reopening schools. I know the DES staff is excited to have 4th and 5th grade students in the building for the first time. Here is additional information for students returning on February 8, 2021.
Calls were made on Monday, January 25 to those who indicated in November that their child would return in person. If you were not contacted, it means you either indicated that your child would remain virtual or the survey was not completed. Please contact the school as soon as possible if you are planning on your child returning to the building so he/she may be assigned to an A or B day. You will be contacted after that assignment has been made.

What schedule will my child follow?
Your child will attend school on either Monday and Tuesday (A day), or Thursday and Friday (B day). Students who are in-person will get off the bus as soon as they arrive and go directly to the classroom for breakfast and unpacking.
What about breakfast/lunch?

Do I still need to pick up materials?
Grades 4 and 5 have materials for the beginning of quarter 3 bagged and ready for pick-up this week. If you have not picked up your child's materials yet, reach out to your child's teacher about arranging another time to get the materials. They will be in the front of the school on Thursday and Friday from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM. These materials will need to come back to school as they are tied to the curriculum.
Thank you for your support as we transition our 4th and 5th grade students back to school. As always, please reach out with any questions.

Should we have inclement weather, here is a reminder of that procedure.
Four inclement weather days are built into the 2020-2021 school calendar. If these days are not used, the school year will end earlier than June 17, currently the last day of school. If more than four days are used, the school year will be extended by the number of days used.
In an effort to avoid using inclement weather days this year, CCPS has developed the following plan:
- If a weather event impacts the ability to transport students safely:
- All students will remain at home for an asynchronous distance learning day (as they experience on Wednesdays). Asynchronous lessons will be posted by 10:30 am.
- Staff will report for a 10:00 am start time.
- If a weather event requires the closure of all CCPS buildings:
- All students will remain at home for an asynchronous distance learning day (as they experience on Wednesdays). Asynchronous lessons will be posted by 10:30 am.
- Staff do not report.
Unexpected inclement weather may result in an early dismissal for in-person students and staff. An early dismissal would impact the schedule for both in-person students and distance learners; however, it would generally not have an impact on the school calendar.
Delays openings, early closings, and all-day closings are communicated via:
- a phone call through our notification system School Messenger
- the CCPS website
- Social Media: Facebook (Caroline County Public Schools), Twitter (@CarolineCoPS) and Instagram (carolineschoolsmd)
- local and regional TV and radio stations
A reminder for families: If you are not receiving email or phone calls from your school, please contact the school office to provide or update your contact information. Having the correct information in PowerSchool is critical to receiving calls and emails from the school via School Messenger.
