Parent Teacher Conferences Sign Up
Parent/Teacher Conferences are set for November 7 (4 to 8pm) and November 8 (8am to 12pm). Teachers have conference times set aside. If you cannot make those times, work with individual teachers to find another time that is mutually acceptable.
To schedule conferences we will again use PTCfast. Even if you've signed up for conferences in the past, you will need to create an account/log in for this year.
You will be able to select the teacher or teachers you want to conference with. You can also schedule multiple students, if necessary.
You can use this link to access the conference schedule
NJHS Operation Christmas
Operation Christmas: We need your help, Mav Families!
Calling all Maverick parents - we need your help! Do you want to teach your kid to grow up knowing how important it is to participate in community service and help the less fortunate? The National Junior Honors Society here at Murphy is providing a great way for you to do so!
NJHS is taking part in Operation Christmas: an organization run to provide kids in need all around the world with Christmas presents. We need 25 Murphy families to adopt a box along with the 25 that NJHS is adopting.
You’re probably wondering, “What does it mean to adopt a box?” Well, your family would temporarily own a shoebox and fill it with many small items such as toys and school supplies; this shoebox will be sent to kids all around the world and will make their lives so much brighter. A great aspect to participating in this are all of the happy memories that you will make working on this positive act together as a family.
In order to adopt a box, you must fill out this google form, and more information will be listed there. We would love your help, Maverick Families!

Shop With a Cop Basketball Tournament & Raffle
Murphy is fortunate to host the event this year. It will take place Friday night and Saturday morning (10/25 & 10/26). Murphy, being last year's tournament champion, has a bye and will play Saturday morning.
All proceeds from this event benefit the Plainfield Police Shop With a Cop program. Each year during the holidays all schools (K-12) served by the PPD are given the opportunity to select students who might benefit from additional financial support during the holidays. This helps grow and support this annual holiday tradition.
The PPD also gathers BIG raffle prizes for the event, parents and community members are invited to purchase (1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20) the chance to win some great prizes.
- 4 tickets and parking pass for Bulls v Golden State 12/6/2019

- $100 Target Gift Card
Additional information about the raffle can be found here. Purchase tickets in the Murphy Office or during the tournament.
PTO
The Murphy PTO does not do any fundraising as a PTO. Instead we ask families to make an annual donation to the PTO. These donations help us to provide classroom grants, student events, staff appreciation, community awareness and much more. Please consider making a donation. In addition, any family who donates $25 or more will receive one free ticket to the Murphy Monster Mash!
The PTO can accept credit card payments for annual donations. You can also make your family’s annual donation via SignUp Genius by clicking on this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0445aaaa22ab9-20192020 UPDATED LINK. If you prefer to send your donation in with your student, please print out the form below and send it to school with your student.

Every Student. Every Day.
Mr. Zaininger - Students utilized the critical reading process through reading an article of their choice that related to electricity in NewsELA. They selected the reading level that best meets their needs to develop reading acquisition by annotating text and qualifying the suitability of their reading level through an assessment of their reading comprehension.
Ms. Tysiak - Using a Newsela article, 6th grade choir students learned about the Erie Canal and the impacts it had on transportation in the 18th and 19th centuries. Students were learning about this to better understand the song, "Erie Canal," that they will be singing at their concert this week!
Ms. Walsh - Mrs. Walsh's 6th grade students learned how to do an advanced Google search to help with the research process. They were looking for information on Langston Hughes because they are reading his short story "Thank You, Ma'am," and working on their digital literacy skills as well.
Mr. Kokes - Students were using Google Earth to find and look up images of the pyramids in Egypt.

Below is a list of volunteer opportunities throughout the surrounding communities. Please fill out the following form to track your hours. Forms are due to Brian Falli on or before Friday, April 24.
