Weekly Update Sept. 23rd
Randolph Elementary School
From the Principals' Desks
In the newsletter this week, we are starting with an introduction to our new RES staff. The first team we are highlighting is the teachers at kindergarten. We have three new teachers on our kindergarten staff, Ms. Racicot, Ms. Smith and Ms. Pozzani. Please see a few words and a picture of each of them below.
As our weather goes back and forth at this time of year, please help your child to be ready for the weather. Our kindergarten through 4th grade students are outside from 7:30-7:55 each morning. So, it is important that they come prepared to be outside on these cold mornings, while also being ready for warm afternoon recesses.
Just a reminder that our pickups for car riders doesn't begin until 2:25. We have our preschool families picking up 4 year olds at 2:15 and this requires them to sign their child out for the day. We want to be sure to keep the curb available and the sidewalks less crowded to ensure our 4 year olds are able to get to their parents in a timely fashion. This will also help to have them out of the pickup area by 2:25, so that our elementary parents can get in for pickup.
Just a highlight for this coming week, we will have a community read aloud around town this coming Thursday. Please see more about this below, and I hope to see you all there.
Thanks
Melinda Robinson and Cara Houston

Community Read Aloud
Join us the evening of Thursday, September 29th from 5:30-7:00 for the Community Read Aloud in downtown Randolph!
Families with pre-K through 4th-grade students are invited to visit up to 8 read-aloud locations around town, enjoy an ice cream sandwich, and select a free book to keep. Meet at the town gazebo at 5:30 p.m. for a welcome message from your school librarians and a map of the event's locations. After you have visited at least three read-alouds, meet back at the gazebo for ice cream and book selection.
Social Emotional Learning at RES
- Teaches the Zones of Regulation- this helps students to be able to identify where their emotions are and how they shift to a calmer zone.
- Has a Calm Corner- this is a spot where students can go in their classroom or in each of the Unified spaces, to help to regulate themselves when they are struggling in that space. There are mindfullness activities that they can engage in at these spots in the classroom to calm their bodies and emotions. There are timers at these spaces that help to regulate how much time they are spending at the calm corners.
- Leader in Me Curriculum- Every kindergarten through 6th grade classroom is teaching the Leader in Me curriculum. This is geared appropriately at each grade level to help students develop the appropriate habits to be successful at school and in their lives as they grow.
- Mindfullness times- each class spends a few minutes a day working on mindfullness activities as a whole class. This is a great way to calm their bodies after an energetic time and reset for academics. It also a way for students to learn techniques that they can use when they are feeling stressed or disregulated.
Check out the pictures below of Ms. Abell's 1st graders engaging in some mindullness time.
