Planning Your School Garden

Thursday, Feb. 11th, 3-6pm

An introductory workshop for planning, building and sustaining a school garden program including construction and maintenance, fund-raising, community engagement and curriculum integration. Connect to others who are trying to create or sustain an educational garden program in a local school; come with questions, challenges and success stories to share!

February Vacation Programs

Monday, Feb. 15th, 9am to Tuesday, Feb. 16th, 4pm

358 Springside Avenue

New Haven, CT

Each day, children can choose from a variety of farm and nature based activities – they can sign up for the activity that they are most excited to do! We offer one activity session in the morning, then we all have lunch together (children bring their own lunch), then we have another activity choice after lunch. Dismissal follows the second activity session.


Children who are staying for extended day (2 – 4 PM) have snack time (bring your own) and then they have open recreation time. Extended day activities include games, art, and outside playtime!


9 AM – 2 PM each day, with optional extended day from 2PM - 4 PM


Program fee: $35 per day, $15 per day for extended day.


Limited financial aid is available to qualified applicants from any town – download an application HERE.

Winter Home School Adventures

Wednesday, Feb. 17th, 9:30am-12pm

Join us this winter for any or all of our winter drop-in classes. Invite a friend – this is great time for new families to check out our program in advance of our spring session!


  • Wednesday, February 17: Winter Survival
  • Wednesday, March 9: Maple Sugaring


Who: Children ages 3 and up with a parent or caregiver (no drop-off option available for winter classes). Program fee: $15 for the first child ages 3 and up, $10 for each additional child (ages 3 and up). No charge for children ages 2 and under who are attending with a sibling.

Grow it! Intro to Gardening Workshops

Saturday, Jan. 30th, 10am to Saturday, March 26th, 12pm

Join Rachel Ziesk, Advanced Master Gardener, for a series of classes that will cover everything you need to be a successful gardener come Spring 2016!


This series is being co-hosted by Common Ground and Neighborhood Housing Services with support from the USDA Risk Management Agency, UCONN, and the CT Dept. of Agriculture.


  • January 30: Cool Weather Crops
  • February 6: Soil & Garden Planning
  • February 13: Warm Weather Crops
  • February 27: Container Gardening & Seed Starting
  • March 12: Edible Landscaping & Edible/Invasive Weeds
  • March 26: Pests, Disease & Organic Controls


$20-$30 per class, sliding scale; $100 to register for the full series.


Note: Discounts may be available. If you'd like to inquire, please call 203-562-0598. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.


If you'd like to pay for the workshop(s) in person, you may bring a check or money order to Norma Pantoja at Neighborhood Housing Services (333 Sherman Avenue, New Haven) before the date of the class.
