Hello Northpoint Community!
We’re under way with the third trimester, and students and staff are working hard throughout the day to accomplish great learning! Our kindergartners are comparing life now and long ago, using the text When I Was Young in the Mountains to notice differences and ask questions to extend their learning.
Our multiage grades 1-2 students in the lower pod are studying penguins, focusing on measurement, and taking opportunities to share their learning with one another. Upstairs, grades 1-2 students are learning how to write "Exploded Moment Narratives." They take a moment of a story and infuse it with the character's thoughts and feelings, in addition to the regular story elements.
In our grade 3-4 classrooms, students are working on Ancient Civilizations of Greece, Rome, and Egypt. This reading unit integrates social studies for a very engaging learning experience!
The spring is always a busy time. Testing is coming up, so please be sure to read your child’s classroom newsletter for specific dates and time. Our all-school field trip is right around the corner on April 12, and students will be engaging in some “pre-learning” prior to this adventure. If you haven’t signed the permission slip, please be sure to do. In addition, across the district there are many fun events to check out. You won’t want to miss opportunities like seeing the high school musical, “Matilda.”
As we look ahead, please also remember there is no school Friday, April 7.
Have a good rest of your week,
Judi Kahoun
Principal

Sully, the rescue and therapy dog!
Mrs. McCarthy's kindergarten class had some very special visitors to their classroom last week. Sully and his owner, Christie, stopped in to share more about their story and to read a book that Christie wrote about Sully. Sully was rescued from Turkey through a program called RAGOM (Retrieve a Golden of the Midwest) and was adopted by Christie's family. Sully became a therapy dog. Some of the amazing things that Sully does is to listen and encourage students reading books and to also help calm fears of hospital patients so they can heal and rest. Sully is a wonderful dog that is loved by so many.
