For Your Information and Action
PSAT/PreACT:
All 10th graders and most 11th will be testing Wednesday 10/16, periods 1-3.
Tuesday PD:As a reminder, PD on Tuesday will be at Quonquont Farm in Whately. We will meet inside of the barn for the day, but there will be opportunities to go outside if you would like! What to bring: yourself. comfy clothes. Writing utensil. Computers not required.
Where's Waldo? Admin has seven extra pairs of where’s Waldo glasses if you need some. First come first serve!
Online Homework: It was brought up in school committee by our student reps that one flaw of the parent portal is not knowing the online homework grades received. Students stated that teachers are getting physical papers back to them in a timely fashion with feedback, but because online homework isn’t “passed back,” students don’t know their grade. We’re not sure how universal this statement is or if it's just the personal experience of our student reps, but please be aware of this feedback and think about how we can provide this information to students. Also, great job getting physical work back in a timely fashion!
Para PD: It's important for paras to participate in the PD planned for the November and December dates. However, We are going to be doing some school-wide celebratory events on the morning of the half day in November, so paras can plan to get together from 9:30-11am on that day to plan their intro since they have no other department time. See Carol for where paras will meet for this planning.
Town Hall: The town hall will take place on Friday, October 18. Students should leave their block 2/period 7 class, put their stuff in their locker and go to advisory. Advisory teachers should give students who plan to attend the notecard that they wrote questions on for the town hall, which will be their entrance ticket into the auditorium.
The town hall will take place for advisory and block three/period 1. Students will be dismissed from town hall to immediately report to Block 4/period 2.
Teachers who have all students reporting to the town hall should come down to the auditorium. If teachers feel strongly that they would like to attend, please tell your students in your period 1 class to complete their notecard during advisory so they are dismissed from advisory to go to the town hall. Administration is unable to provide coverage for teachers who want to attend but still have students in a class.
IEP Meeting Expectations: It is a professional expectation to read and understand the following information in regards to IEP meetings.
Come on time. Each IEP meeting has an agenda with specific items to address in a fairly short amount of time. It will not be possible to do it all in 50 minutes if people are coming in late.
Participate appropriately. If you are giving an update on student progress, please make it specific enough so we get an idea of the student’s strengths and weaknesses for the purpose of the IEP, but general enough so it’s not a play by play of each assignment the student did or didn’t do.
Don’t leave without parent permission. IEP team meetings are meetings where a general education teacher is required to attend by law. By leaving the meeting without permission, it violates this law and can be problematic. Because of this, the parent needs to sign an excusal form in order to approve the teacher leaving. If the meeting is not over and folks need to leave, it may need to be rescheduled.
Staff Shout-Outs
- Shout out to Alesia Estabrook for reassigning Freshmen Student Council lockers so quickly. Thank you for all of your work!
Collaboration and Engagement:
- Shout out to Stacy Camp and the Middle School GSA who put together a fabulous, informative Advisory lesson on GLBTQI+ history and terminology. The eighth-grade class that I observed handled the presentation in a curious age-appropriate manner.
- Thank you to Allison Labrecque and the life skills students for your help! They were asked to do a huge copying job, and they did it quickly and kindly. Alison took on the job without hesitation and enthusiastically, and Ryan was so proud to hand us the completed work. We appreciate their time and willingness!
