Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 18 April 2021
Lord Jesus, open the Scriptures to us; make our hearts burn while you speak to us.
Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled?
And why do questions arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.
Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones
as you can see I have.”
He said to them,
“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,
that everything written about me in the law of Moses
and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.”
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
~From the gospel of Luke
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Peace be with you! I hope that on this Third Sunday of Easter, we are able to listen and learn from the Sacred Scriptures to see the reality of Jesus’ presence in front of us. May we be able to respond to the question, “Why are you troubled?” with trust, with hope and with love.
OUR 30TH ANNUAL JOG-A-THON BEGINS TODAY!
With 12 days left to reach $50,000, we are at 76% of goal! Thank you to those who have contributed $38,099, thus far. A little goes a long way. Ask family, friends and neighbors to pitch in any amount. https://app.99pledges.com/fund/scs30thjat
Olympian, soccer superstar and St. Clare supporter Brandi Chastain shared her message of support, along with City of Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor, a St. Clare alumna! Let’s move it! Grades 5-8, kicked off JAT last Friday with some dance moves. Video is attached. Thanks to our middle school teachers for leading the charge!
If you haven’t picked up your child’s JAT shirt, please make an appointment to come by the office to pick it up.
Don’t forget to take photos and video during JAT week of you running, walking, biking, hiking, moving and share them on St. Clare’s Facebook and Instagram @stclareschoolsantaclara and use the hash tag #stclareJAT #stclarewildcats!
Jog-a-Thon ends April 24. Read posts and updates from Katy Kerns.
THIS WEEK: WE RETURN TO IN-PERSON ON WEDNESDAYS
Starting April 19, we will return to being at school five days a week, except for our 8th graders, who will remain in their cohorts, except on Wednesdays, when they are invited to be on campus to work on their Capstone Projects.
Information regarding middle school’s return has been sent out separately to families of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Teachers should have shared the schedule with students last week.
Wednesdays will continue to be minimum days (12:30 dismissal) with CKZ available for those who are registered until 5:30 P.M. (Email valerye.moore@dsj.org if you'd like to attend CKZ.) There will continue to be no Choice Lunch on Wednesdays, so if your child attends CKZ, please be sure to pack them a lunch.
A parent asked if it is mandatory to return to school on Wednesdays. The response to this is that we are providing every opportunity for students to be in person as much as possible. As studies have shown, being in person benefits your child’s social-emotional well-being, as well as their academic progress. Please note what the Parent & Student Handbook says about Attendance:
The culture of St. Clare School should be one in which students are present, on time and in school every single day they are able. A student having to make up the work at home does not compare to the experience in the classroom during instruction and as participants in discussion and as collaborators.
Students who are late or miss school on a regular basis miss important information and interaction, which can impact their learning.
We realize that there may be some very legitimate reasons for being absent. The coming school year’s calendar is published in the spring so that family vacations can be planned when school is not in session. Please make every effort to keep your child in school when school is in session.
TRAVEL GUIDANCE
CDC Travel Guidance: Domestic | International
For those returning to California after domestic or international travel, please pay particular attention to the following:
After you travel:
Get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.
Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements.
Please communicate your travel plans and consult with Mrs. Rizzo (cherell.rizzo@dsj.org) or me (cecile.mantecon@dsj.org) so that we can walk you through safety protocols before your child returns to school.
SUMMER CAMP: June 14-July 30
Please let us know of your interest ASAP. Registration will open soon! Contact Valerye Moore (valerye.moore@dsj.org). Thank you to those who responded to our survey: https://tinyurl.com/stclaresummercamp Please feel free to share the link with friends and family. All are welcome!
OFFICE VISITS, LUNCH, ATTENDANCE
Another reminder to kindly let the school office and all your teachers know of any absences: stclare-attendance@dsj.org.
In addition, if there is a need for your to drop off or pick up items in the office, kindly leave a message to let us know you are coming. Our administrative staff has acquired additional duties like helping take students to the restrooms, distributing hot lunch and providing yard duty supervision. Especially avoid coming between 10-10:45A and 11:45A-1P.
In addition, we ask for your cooperation to make sure your children come to school with their lunch or plan ahead and order Choice Lunch for them. This will help alleviate the extra effort on our office staff to deliver your children’s lunches to them as they get ready for supervision or are in the process of preparing to distribute Choice Lunch. Thank you for your kind consideration.
As always, we depend on one another to provide a program that puts the safety and welfare of our students and teachers at the forefront. Thank you for your part in it! We are very fortunate to have the support and care from you.
