Dealey Dragon Update

August 1, 2019

Letter from the Principal

Hello excellent Dragon Families,

I hope you have enjoyed your summer and you have had a chance to read, reflect and relax with the ones you love.

I had some nice relaxation in Colorado with my family. Because of the late season snow (it snowed 20 inches in the mountains the week before we arrived!) we hiked down low, and the wildflowers were spectacular. Please see pictures below.

When I returned from Colorado, I spent lots of time reflecting and reading because I started my Montessori Administrator Certification courses at Shelton School. I completed three weeks this summer; I will do practicum work and some course work throughout the year, and I will do three more weeks of training next summer. I am so grateful to be afforded this amazing opportunity for professional learning, and I can’t wait to put some of my learning into action.

We will have several new members on the Dealey team this year, so I hope you will join me in welcoming our new staff. They are a group of growth focused and student centered educators that will benefit from the expertise and commitment modeled by our returning staff. I could not be happier with the level of talent and enthusiasm of our team, and I know they will continue to make a huge impact on our children.

I can’t wait to see you and your children back on August 15 for Open House and Middle School Orientation and August 19th for the first day of school!

Please email me ( if you have questions or feedback.

Letter from Ms. Knoll, our new Assistant Principal.

To the Dealey community,

My name is Caitlin Knoll and I could not be more excited to join the Dealey family next year working alongside students, staff, and families as the new Assistant Principal.

Growing up, some of my fondest memories are from my own experiences in my elementary Montessori classroom. I cherish the lifelong lessons I learned through self discovery and exploration. The skills and habits in time management, independence, creativity and care for others have stuck with me long past my years as a Montessori student. They paved the way for me to be here today, continuing my journey in education, now as a school leader looking forward to sharing with others the love for learning that was shared with me.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, I moved my life to Dallas to complete my two year service in Teach For America. Through that experience, I developed a passion for teaching and realized I wanted to return to my Montessori roots. I was fortunate to spend the last three years teaching Upper Elementary and leading initiatives at Eduardo Mata. In addition to leading and learning alongside families and colleagues, I completed a Masters Degree in school leadership from Southern Methodist University.

When I’m not playing with the golden beads or pin maps, you’ll find me doing hand stands in yoga or playing in the back yard with my dogs.

I look forward to meeting you all in August. Until then, I hope you continue having a safe and wonderful summer.

PTA and Dad’s Club Thank yous

  • Dealey PTA funded several important projects over the summer.

  • Montessori teachers inventoried their classrooms before the end of the year, and PTA was able to use remaining hallway money to fund the purchase of nearly $2000.00 in updated Montessori materials.

  • The Dad’s club refurbished our basketball goals and hard top. The Dealey Logos on the goals look fantastic!

  • PTA has picked up the funding of IXL for Math (1-8) and Science (4-8). This is an excellent resource for our students that we would not be able to purchase without PTA’s help.

  • PTA is partnering with DISD to upgrade the sound, lighting and AV equipment in the auditorium. This is a very exciting project that will impact all of our students.
