School Counselor Update

Highland High School

Course Name Changes

Soon you may notice that course names or titles change in PowerSchool. This is in response to legislation (Section 504 and Title II) and student transcript reports. The change is in name only- course level and rigor will remain.

Semester 2 Schedules

We plan to have final Semester 2 schedules available on PowerSchool starting December 13th. Students will also be able to pick up a printed copy during lunch.

Schedule changes will take place the first 3 days of the semester. Changes are only for students who have a hole in their schedule, a class they have already taken or a level change where parent and teacher have discussed and approved.

ACT Profile

http://www.actprofile.org is a great tool for college and career exploration. Students who create an account can complete interest inventories, search majors, colleges and compare schools. Students who create accounts can also connect with their HHS Counselors.

It's never to early to start researching college and career possibilities.

ACT Testing

The ACT is important in determining the types of colleges in which a student will have the best chance for gaining admission. It is also one component of a students college application.

For testing dates, registration deadlines and more information visit http://www.actstudent.org

SAT testing and prep

Juniors will be taking the SAT as part of State testing in April. They each created college board accounts recently- this account can be used for Khan Academy practice and to see and send scores. http://www.collegeboard.org
