Synthesis
Synthesis is a reaction in which two or more substances react to form a single substance.
A > B = AB
Ex : 2Na + Cl2 -> 2NaCl
Decomposition
Decomposition is a reaction in which a compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances.
AB = A > B
Ex : 2H2O -> 2H2 + O2
Single Replacement
Single replacement is a reaction in which one element takes the place of another element in a compound.
A + BC -> B + AC
Ex : 2K + 2H20 -> H2 + 2KOH
Double Replacement
Double replacement is one in which two different compounds exchange positive ions and form two new compounds.
AB + CD -> AD + CB
Ex : H2C03 -> CO2 + H20
Combustion
Combustion is a reaction in which a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen.
CH + O2
Ex : 2H2 + O2 -> 2H20
