Broken Arrow Garden Update
Here is the weekly Farm-to-School update from USD 497!
This week was our last week working in the garden for the fall semester, but we will be back in the spring! Kindergarten and 1st graders were on the hunt for fall leaves - after learning about what makes leaves turn colors and fall to the ground we set out into the garden to hunt for leaves of all shapes, colors, and sizes. We then glued our selections onto a plate for hanging and decorating at home!
This spring, we are hoping to make some big garden plans for planting pumpkins, tomatoes, corn, zinnias, and more for our students to tend and study. Winter is a great time to plan your garden!
Decorating or carving pumpkins at your house this month? Remember that pumpkins are great for composting in the garden and even eating! Pumpkin seeds can be roasted and ripe (non-spoiled) pumpkin insides can be baked and made into pumpkin puree for pies, soups, breads, and more. Check out this short video to learn more!
