Principal's Post
Dear Mill Creek Families,
During this week's 5th/6th Grade Back to School Night, a teacher and I were discussing the recent extended school closure due to the storm. While some of the days were already scheduled due to Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah, the weather necessitated an extension. The teacher initially bemoaned losing the extra day, saying, "We started the school year off great! We were on a roll!" The teacher was just a bit disappointed that their "roll" was stifled a day early. But this story has a happy ending! The teacher followed up their statement by saying that that, "In spite of the unexpected [extra day], my students were able to pick right back up where we left off - what a group!"
This little story just highlights how excited our students are to be here with us for the 2020-2021 school year. And we are sure glad to have them! Let's keep our momentum going!
Additionally, as we observe the 20th anniversary of 9/11 this weekend, I wish you a weekend of reflection, remembrance, and togetherness.
Sincerely,
Shawn M. Ortman
Principal
From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
There are days when we celebrate, and there are days when we reflect and remember. The start of the school year is, in my opinion, absolutely a time to celebrate as our students return to classrooms and bring "life" to our school. It is a celebration of the educational journey they are about to undertake, which will see them experience tremendous growth and development...
However, tomorrow, most of us will take a pause in celebrating, as the day marks the 20th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Appropriately, our country and community will certainly take time to reflect and remember a tragic event.
I wish you a wonderful weekend with your families as we also commemorate a very solemn anniversary tomorrow…

School Lunch Information...
In April 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service extended the program that will provide for free meals for all students, regardless of income, for the 2021-22 school year. This has been made possible by nationwide waivers that provide for free meals for all students through June 2022.
All menus are available to be viewed online up to 2 weeks in advance by visiting cbsd.nutrislice.com.
Students are entitled to one complete reimbursable breakfast per day and one complete reimbursable lunch per day. Any second entrée will be charged to the students’ lunch account. We encourage all families to put money on their students account through MySchoolBucks.com as there will be no cash transactions this year in an effort to serve the students as safely and swiftly as possible.
We are thrilled to continue to safely serve students delicious, fresh and nutritious meals at no charge, and we are equally excited to re-introduce our favorite programs to deliver fun, exciting and tasty experiences to students throughout the coming year.
