Iowa City Community School District - Run for the Schools!
Can you speak another language?
The Iowa City Community School District is looking to hire interpreters and translators to facilitate communication between families and staff on an occasional basis. There is a great need for French and/or Arabic interpreters and translators, but individuals who have expertise in other languages are also encouraged to apply. Individuals must have proficient oral and/or written skills in English as well as the target language.
Please apply online at https://www.applitrack.com/iccsd/onlineapp/ or contact the school district office at 319-688-1000 with questions.
Iowa Assessments
Dear Parents,
For many years students in our district, as well as districts across the state, have been assessed on an annual basis with the Iowa Assessments. The Iowa City Community School District has traditionally elected to administer these assessments in October.
Last spring the Iowa legislature determined that all students in Iowa would be assessed using a new test called the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). These new assessments are developed by Iowa Testing Programs at the University of Iowa delivered and supported by Iowa-based Pearson, for the state of Iowa. The assessments are aligned with the Iowa Core standards and provide a clear and accurate assessment of student learning outcomes. Student growth, proficiency and readiness indicators will be reported.
The new assessments are required to be administered between March and May 2019 and will be available in online and paper formats. The grade levels, tests, and recommended administration times are provided below:

Elementary students in ICCSD will take these assessments during the week of April 8-12; and secondary students will take these assessments on April 16-17, using the online format. During this first year of administration, it is anticipated that results may not be available until late summer or early fall of 2019.
If you have any questions about these assessments, please contact the district curriculum office.

After School Spanish Classes
Registration Begins 10/1/18
The PTO is pleased to once again offer After School Spanish classes at Wickham. Three classes will be offered. Students will be placed taking into consideration both grade and ability level. When signing up, please follow the class descriptions to find the class that will best suit your student. Each class will meet once per week. We will have about half the classes before Winter Break and the rest of the classes in the spring. The curriculum and further information will be provided by the teachers once students are enrolled.
Class Descriptions
Spanish 1 Kindergarten and 1st time students – will be offered on Tuesdays from 4:00-4:35 p.m. This class will be taught by Erika Loyo. Erika is a native of Mexico and has lived in the Iowa City area for twelve years. Erika has taught at Wickham for six years. She has also taught at Coralville Central. She is a mother of two. Classes will start on October 18th.
Spanish 2 Grades 1, 2 and 3 (for students who have already taken Spanish 1)– will be offered on Tuesdays from 4:45-5:20 p.m. This class will be taught by Erika Loyo as well. Classes will start on October 16th.
Spanish 3 Grades 4*, 5 and 6 – will be offered on Thursdays from 4:00-4:35. (Notice new class time). This class will be taught by Jessica Ortiz. Jessica is a native of Ecuador and has lived in the Iowa City area for thirteen years. This is Jessica’s fifth year teaching for Wickham’s program. She is the mother of two. This class will start on October 18.
*Parents of 4th graders: It is up to you to decide if your child should be placed in the second or third level of Spanish. The
Spanish 3 level class is more challenging. If you think your child can learn better and enjoy the experience more in the lower level, it might be a good idea to start there and move on to the next level next year.
