WORD FROM THE EMERALD CITY

~UIL is this week, starting tomorrow, so we want to wish all of our participants GOOD LUCK! I would like to give Amarisa a HUGE shout out for organizing the event again this year! It's been a trying year, since the district had to change coordinators mid-way through, but Amarisa has done a GREAT job resubmitting information, communicating with the district coordinators and keeping me in the loop along the way!! If you see her, give her a HUGE hug! She deserves it!

~Shout out to Bobby for doing a great job and working so hard organizing STAAR last week. We had it go off very smoothly, and all tests were turned in on Friday. We have another round to go in May, and then we can check another year off the list! It definitely takes a village, so we appreciate everyone being flexible and helping out wherever needed to do what's best for our kiddos!

~Make sure your're advertising the Reading Festival that takes place next Monday at Chisholm Trail. All RSVP's should be turned into Ashley! Shout out to Leslie and Melanie for all of their hard work on the Color Run. It looks like we are going to have a good sized amount of participants, and that's amazing!! I hope you are planning to come..even if you don't run or walk!! It's going to be a fun event!

~ Thanks everyone for the awesome potluck on Friday! There was such a good variety and plenty for everyone! Thanks to Sunshine Committee for organizing another great event. We will have a Sundae Bar on April 12th, so look for more information and a sign up sheet to come!

~ Teacher Appreciation Week is just around the corner. We have some great treats in store for you during the week. PTA has some fun things planned as well. Right now, plan on letting us provide you with breakfast on Monday and Tuesday, Lunch will be provided on Wednesday and Friday, and special treats such as Kona Ice and Sonic throughout the week! And...don't forget about our drawings for special gifts each day! We definitely appreciate ALL of our staff and want to show you all how much!!

Campus News

~ Tomorrow, Tuesday, 5th grade is taking the Science benchmark. Make sure to look at the schedule that Bobby sent out with the schedule. 3rd grade will also be administering another benchmark next week, so please check your email for that schedule as well.

~We will begin scheduling TTESS end of the year conferences. All conferences will be completed by the end of April. We will be finishing up walkthroughs and evaluations this week, and conferences will begin next week.

~The book fair is next week. There will be extended hours on Thursday, before the start of the Color Run. It's the BOGO book fair, so when students buy an item, they get another item of the same or lesser value, free!

~ I will be off campus this Thursday morning at a meeting. Misty Germaine will be here at 12:00 for math curriculum walks. Don't forget to have learning targets up in the rooms as well as in the hallways, when you have work posted.

~ We will have a staff meeting on Monday, April 17th after school to discuss the PDSA continuous improvement cycle. Nicole and Shannon will lead this training. This will be approximately 45 minutes and will give an introduction to the cycle, so you will know what to expect when you return in August.

~ Mark your calendars for Friday, May 5th. We will have Muffins with Moms at 7:10 that morning. I will be sending home invitations to get RSVP's in the next week or so.

Be Vocabulous!

Continue to discuss the vocabulary with your students! It's making a big difference!

Here is the copy of the s'more newsletter about the vocabulary program. It has all the words listed for the year, so you can plan ahead! It has each word listed and the grade level responsible. The kids really enjoyed this last year, and I think this was something I had more comments from parents about than anything! They would comment about their students knowing the meanings of words that they didn't even know. The vocabulary parade was a big hit too. Even the older kids got into it and had fun being creative and participating.

Please turn in the "Word Up" Levels sheets when you have students who display the appropriate use of the words. Obviously, the younger they are, the more "adaptation" needs to occur in order to receive the levels, but the students who received the tags last year, LOVED it!! I will put the "Word Up Level" sheet on canvas!

As a reminder, the way the "Word Up Levels" work, goes like this...

All students will start as rookies and all students will have a chance to move up as many levels as they would like. Spirit Tags (that PTA is selling) will be used for levels 2 thru 5 and when a student reaches level 2 thru 5 they will receive a spirit tag for that level from the principal.

Teachers will nominate students to move up through the levels.
