Superintendent's Message
Dear JUHSD Community,
It's hard to believe we're wrapping up our fourth week of school! It has been a privilege for me to safely visit with you and your families at our Back to School Nights. I have enjoyed meeting you and I thank you for trusting us with your children.
With Labor Day taking place this coming Monday, I would like to thank the JUHSD community for supporting our schools. The hard work, dedication, and resiliency of our students and staff is evident. This certainly has been the most interesting back to school yet, but our campuses are alive again and it is all worth it!
Have a restful three day weekend and know that my door is always open!
Warmly,
Toni Presta
Superintendent

JUHSD Hires COVID Director
Michele brings strong experience in the development of COVID policies and procedures for contact tracing, and infection response. She has a heart for ongoing client services and a passion for problem solving. Michele is also deeply committed to the education sector, which is what most interested her in coming to work for the Jefferson Union High School District. She is eager to hit the ground running and started in her role on September 1, 2021.
Substitute Teacher Shortage
We are pleased to share that during the last two board meetings, we successfully onboarded eight new district substitute teachers, along with our current student teachers. Of note, we are pleased to welcome back two of our recently retired teachers as district substitute teachers.
Public Input Wanted
Last week, the district mentioned plans to help fund student education by replacing outdated facilities at Serramonte Del Rey with a new family-friendly neighborhood.
Community members have the opportunity to learn more about the project, and let their voices be heard on this topic, during the JUHSD 7-11 Committee meeting on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held remotely and can be accessed via Zoom by following this link at the time of the meeting, https://bit.ly/JUHSD711.

VACCINATE
Safe, free, effective COVID-19 vaccines are available to everyone age 12 and up—regardless of immigration or insurance status. Stay healthy, protect others and help us end the pandemic. Find a walk-in clinic or make an appointment today by visiting My Turn CA.
Air Quality Updates
*Areas that are served by our HVAC system have fully functioning, hospital grade, MERV-13 filters. With the doors closed, these filters will be able to filter viruses out of the air and filter smoke particles as well.
*With the doors open, some of the air breathed out is disbursed out the door rather than through the filter, but our systems will function just as well with the doors closed. There is no need for additional filtration in areas served by our HVAC system.
*Areas that are not served by the HVAC system have already been provided with portable air purifiers.
*All school sites have been provided with CO2 sensors that can be used to spot check air circulation. CA Standards set 1,100ppm as the upper limit CO2 level of a properly ventilated classroom.
