Already Due: Reminder!
SPLOST
Video Project
Hi all,
First, I would like to thank you for your patience, determination, and willingness to participate in this Video Project that we have been working on for some time. Please know that we (the FAST Team) are AVIDLY working to make it as beneficial as possible for advancement of our instructional practices for our students. For those of you who seem a bit confused by it, please continue to be patient with us as we work out the kinks.
This is a gentle reminder that your Unit 2 Video is due October 22nd (Monday).
All you need to do right now is make sure your Unit 2 video is uploaded into the appropriate folder (i.e., your FAST Teacher) that Megan Endicott sent out earlier this week. If you missed that email, here is the link: Open<———Click for the Exemplar Video Folders!
Remember this is ANY Unit 2 Video… IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE CONNECTED TO A TKES STANDARD.
Please name the file like this before you upload it into the appropriate FAST Team Member’s folder:
LAST NAME_ FIRST NAME_ SCHOOL NAME_UNIT 2 Video (Example: Hall_Casey_Wolf Creek ES_Unit 2 Video)
Lastly, here are a couple of Do’s + Don’ts to streamline all of our videos (see below).
Do’s:
· 1. It’s OK to Film Kids! These videos will NOT be published outside the county or on ANY social media account. So feel free to video your ENTIRE classroom!
· 2. Your video should be 20 CONTINUOUS MINUTES MINIMUM of teaching instruction (make sure you are showing instructional teaching meaning YOU are providing direct or guided instruction to the whole group or small group)
· 3. When recording, place your device on a sturdy surface in one corner of your classroom. Again, if you are having issues with the recording process, PLEASE ask a colleague in your building OR your FAST person within a reasonable time frame prior to the due date.
· 4. When videoing your teaching please have your device in landscape orientation, not portrait orientation. This allows more visibility of the classroom environment.
· 5. Save your video with name above
· 6. The video for Unit 2 is DUE OCTOBER 22nd! We will be checking these folders at the close of the day on Monday to make sure you have completed this task.
Don’ts:
· 1. Don’t edit your video using multiple clips (meaning do not segment or splice your videos). Your video SHOULD BE CONTINUOUS.
· 2. Don’t record the video yourself with device in hand. Again, please place your device on a sturdy surface so the video does not end up being shaky or distorted.
· 3. Don’t film only student performances (without teacher instruction). This isn’t the purpose of the videos. We are looking for INSTRUCTIONAL TEACHING, not student performances (see Do’s regarding instructional teaching).
4. Don’t procrastinate! Make sure you don’t wait until the last minute to film and upload your video BEFORE the deadline! Be smart with your time and plan accordingly!
Hold tight for more information to come soon! Please remember to ask questions if you have them and reach out for help if you need! Thank guys!

Digital Resources!
A Message From Sally.
Hello everyone! Happy October and congratulations on making it halfway through the first semester! Before we get too much further into the year, I wanted to reach out to everyone regarding our Digital Music Resource Archive. The FAST team and I want this to be a living archive that expands and grows year after year, but to get it started I'm going to need YOUR help!
Each month, I will ask everyone to send me some of your favorite resources that you already use in your classes. This could be favorite songs you use for certain units, books and resources you could recommend, links to TPT resources, blogs you follow, or really anything! We have to avoid copyrighted materials, obviously, but the idea is that the archive can be accessed by any Fulton music teacher anytime they might need it.
We already have the archive in the works and a few things can already be found at the new FCS Elementary Music website, but as we continue to grow, please be thinking about some ideas you can send to me!
Here's a timeline of some things you can expect to share:
October – Share one idea of something you would like to see on the new website
November – Share one differentiated instruction idea
January – Share one discipline tip
February – Share one of your favorite general music resources and where you can purchase/download it
March - Share one amazing lesson plan with links for any resources…any unit…one that works great in your classroom!
April – Share one assessment and label which unit, grade level it is for, and which type of assessment it is (can be diagnostic, formative, or summative)
May – Share your favorite Kodaly or Orff activity!
I will of course be happy to take ANY resource at any time if you happen to find something amazing and want to share it immediately, but these are just some ideas to get you thinking.
Please contact me if you need any further details!

Lesson Ideas!
Damarys Wichowski - Itinerant Teacher CLC
If I could use a puppet for every lesson, I would! (But I’d be broke) I LOVE using puppets with my younger grades. They respond to it very well and are more engaged because they want to interact with them! This is Lulu Bird, and she focuses on Kindergarteners using their high voice. I am SUPER dramatic with my puppets, and the kids love it. I tell them “Lulu only listens to Kindergarteners who use their high voice, and she gets SO excited when you use it! She may even let you pet her if you speak in a high voice to her!” I go around the room and ask for kids to say “hello Lulu Bird” in their high voice (individual assessment!!!). If they do it correctly, they may pet the bird or the puppet will nibble their hair, squeak loudly, show excitement that it was done correctly. If they use their normal or low voice, I turn the bird’s head away from them and tell that child that Lulu didn’t hear you because you used your regular voice. That usually fixes the issue and they speak much higher on the 2nd go round. Hope you all have just as much fun with puppets as I do!

Teacher Feature!
Kim Dahl - NELC
My name is Kim Dahl and I am a graduate of Fulton County Schools. I went to the University of West Georgia where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and I also attended Florida State University where I received my Master’s in Music Therapy. This is my 15th year teaching at Northwood Elementary School. I love this school! One of my favorite units is the piano unit. I wrote and received a grant, 4 years ago, for the funding to create a piano lab. Each year I see my students developing solid independent music skills. This unit provides a great opportunity for me to work one on one with my students and truly personalize their learning. I am looking forward to adding ukuleles to my curriculum this yearJ
Lauren Goldfuss - NWLC
Hello! I teach general music and chorus at Summit Hill Elementary School in Milton, GA. I graduated from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) in 2016 with a degree in Music Education and a focus in vocal/choral and elementary music education. I LOVE teaching elementary music and getting to teach at the same school I went to as a kid. I’m a huge choir nerd and have been singing since I joined the SHE Chorus in 4th grade. If I’m not at school, I’m off singing in the John’s Creek Chorale, spending time outside hiking, or hanging out with family, friends, and my dog. I’m excited to be in my 3rd year of teaching and am looking forward to more learning and sharing with our awesome FC elementary music community! 😊
Alexis Astrop - SLC
Hello! My name is Alexis Astrop and I am excited to be teaching here in Fulton County. This is my fourth year of teaching and I am happy to be a part of the Campbell Elementary Cougar family. Prior to teaching here in Fulton County, I taught elementary music in Sebastian, Florida for three years. I grew up in Emporia, Virginia where I began my musical journey playing flute and piccolo in the marching, pep and concert band. After high school I moved to Daytona Beach, Florida to earn my degree in music education from the great Bethune-Cookman University. While at BCU I marched in The Pride of BCU the Marching Wildcats, played in the BCU Symphonic Band, played in the BCU Flute Ensemble, re-chartered and became a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women, and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. I am currently in the master’s program for Educational Leadership at Clark Atlanta University. When I am not at school I enjoy shopping, baking and designing cakes, and spending time with family and friends.
