The Peine Pride
October Edition
FALL PARTY TIME
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
We will only be allowing one food item and one drink item to be served in each classroom. This will be coordinated between the classroom teacher and room parents. This will help us better control the amount of food, risk of allergies, and amount of time staff loses checking food labels on party days.
All parents attending parties need to bring a valid ID. In order to attend parties, guests must be on our approved list of volunteers or not be on the Sex Offender Registry List.
During our Fall Party, we do allow students to dress up. Please be mindful of the following costume guidelines:
- No masks
- No weapons
- Nothing scary or gory
- Must be school appropriate
If you are unsure if a costume idea is school appropriate, please run it by your classroom teacher first.
PTO NEWS
- Our 2nd annual Panther Prowl Walk-a-Thon will be held during the school day on Tuesday, October 23rd. The Prowl is intended to be a fun way to promote active and healthy lifestyles among our students while raising money to benefit our school. The Prowl will be Peine's primary fundraiser. Our goal is to raise funds to support PTO activities, events, classroom enrichment, and much more. We have a wonderful opportunity to make a difference and build a sense of community. Fundraising info will go home Friday, October. 5th.
PBIS House Update:
The 2018-2019 school year is off to a great start. Classes are learning about and following Peine’s 25. These are 25 Life Rules to Follow that will help us be respectful citizens of our community. We have also started Friday Rallys. Grade levels combine for a Rally every Friday to celebrate awesome students and happenings at our school. On every 3rd Friday, there is a school-wide assembly. We just had our first school-wide assembly last week. It was fun to watch teachers compete for a wheel spin and to see students chosen for good behavior to earn the chance to win points for their House. Remember that every Wednesday is House Day! Wear your House colors to show your school spirit!!
NEWS FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
The Zones of Regulation
Throughout the year, we will be teaching faculty, students, and the community about the Zones of Regulation! Each Zone represents different levels of energy and emotions that one may experience! Our goal is to help students identify their emotions and have the awareness to effectively use strategies to self-regulate.
What is SELF-REGULATION?
Self-Regulation is the ability to manage your emotions and behavior in accordance with the demands of the situation (The Child Mind Institute).
When regulating one’s self, one must have skills for calming the body, skills for expressing emotions appropriately, and skills for moderating thoughts to problem solve effectively (Chapin & Penner, 2012).
ZEN DEN
Ask your child about how they use the Zen Den in their classroom! The Zen Den provides several self-regulation strategies for kids to use during the day! The tools in the Zen Den allow students the opportunity to try different strategies that help their bodies and minds be calm so that they may be in the best ZONE to learn!
Kindergarten Friendship Groups
The counseling team will be implementing small group lessons on Friendship! Every Kindergarten student will get to spend time learning skills that everyone needs to be a successful friend!

September Scholars of the Month
This year we have vamped up our Student of the Month. We now have Scholars of the Month. This will be an honor presented to one student per grade level each month. These students will receive a special shirt, pin, and special lunch with the principals.
Kindergarten: Emerson Lampkin
Emerson is a model student for our class. She is kind, bright, and simply a joy to be around. She is helpful to both teachers and her classmates. I love that I can always count on her to be doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. She is recognized all around the school for her positive behavior. I am so incredibly proud of her.
First Grade: This month 1st grade nominated Liam Vandegriffe.
Liam is such a hardworking and giving friend. He is constantly and only giving his best effort whether its in whole group, small group, or playing kickball on the playground. He is also the kindest friend in every aspect. He is always the first one to help a friend when they missed a direction, when they dropped something, or to boost their confidence when they need it. Liam has been noticed by several first-grade teachers and is truly a great example in our grade!
Second Grade: Eli Roque is Second Grade's Scholar of the Month!
Eli always comes to class with a STELLAR attitude! He is ROCKING IT with his big three every day: he is respectful by being the first to say "yes, sir" or "yes, ma'am;" he is consistently responsible everywhere he goes in the building; and he is always kind to his friends, often the first to assist anyone in need. Safe to say, he is AMAZING! Thank you for all that you do, Eli!
Third Grade: Keeven Neihouse
Keeven always is showing the big three. He shows responsibility by always turning his work in on time and doing his very best. Keeven is respectful to all staff at all times. Keeven is a great example of a Peine Panther!!!
Fourth Grade: Evie Bampton
Evie is not always showing the BIG 3, but she is always working hard and trying her best. She is not afraid to seek help as well as offer help to others including myself! She is dependable and someone I can rely on when I need help or if a guest teacher will be in the room for the day. She is just an overall joy to have in class! Love ya, Evie!
Fifth Grade: Andrew Sizemore from Mrs. Tepen's 5th-grade class
Andrew stands out inside and outside the classroom. Inside the classroom, he is always willing to lend a hand and help clean the classroom. He is an active participant in group discussions and lessons. He has already fully read 19 books this school year, and he continues to add more books to that list each week. He is one of the hardest workers in my class and is always excited to learn something new. Outside the classroom, he is an active soccer player who shows good sportsmanship. At recess, he follows expectations and helps others do the same.
Sixth Grade: Madison Toth as our Scholar of the Month.
Madison is courteous, respectful, and embraces what it means to be a Peine Ridge student. Madison excels in all of her classes, shows great leadership in group settings, and is an excellent role model for all students.

INTERNET SAFETY:
For the past few weeks, students have been learning about Internet Safety. We have focused on three things: first, make sure to tell a trusted adult about what you are doing on the internet, second, use handheld devices responsibly – know what is going on around you, and finally, be an upstanding citizen if you see cyber-bullying. Common Sense Media provides a great website that provides useful information to help support your child as they navigate through our ever-changing technology.
