WE ARE WARRIOR PROUD
What to do when your child feels disrespected?
One of the approaches to disrespectful behavior is to be assertive. One strategy that we encourage here at BHMS when students experience disrespectful behavior is to tell the person to stop and walk away. If this negative disrespectful behavior continues after students have been assertive telling the other individual(s) to stop and walk away, is to talk to an adult.
We have received a few phone calls from parents saying their child is being bullied. We appreciate the communication, however, I would ask that you reinforce to your student that they follow the steps of stop, walk, and talk to an adult. I know this is not easy, however, this is the best way to deter negative behaviors from continuing and give us an opportunity to intervene more immediately. Please ask you child if they told the other child to stop and if they walked away. Then follow up if they told an adult.
