Wrapping Up First Quarter
I cannot believe that first quarter is coming to an end! Students have been working very hard to acclimate to fourth grade. First quarter is the most challenging and I am impressed with how the students are meeting and exceeding expectations. To finish up the quarter we are working on the following standards:
Writing: We are currently finishing up our personal narrative writing unit. Students are working on building suspense and writing the main event of their narratives. Please be looking for an invitation to our writing celebration. I am assuming it will be sometime in November!
Reading: Students are exploring three types of literature (poetry, drama, and prose) and utilizing comprehension skills to understand the theme, to summarize, and to compare and contrast information from the texts.
Math: In math, students have just finished up our work with multiplicative comparisons. Next, we will be working to understand factors and multiples as well as prime and composite numbers.
Social Studies: Students are currently being historians in social studies and learning about the history of North Carolina. We started with a study of the first people in N.C., the Native Americans, and went into an in depth exploration of the three regions and how the tribes were similar and different. Next week, we will begin our study on colonization in North Carolina.
