LHS Update
8/18/2020
Dear Liberty Students and Families,
On behalf of the entire Liberty staff, we want you to know that we are excited to get this school year started. We have a few updates regarding Phase 2 for you to review.
Phase 2 Schedule
After reviewing our initial plans at Level 2, we have made an adjustment that we feel will best serve our students during this time and we wanted to make you aware of that change. In Level 2, our blended learning model, students in high school will utilize a traditional bell schedule during their in-person learning days (AA: Mondays and Tuesdays; BB: Thursdays and Fridays). On Wednesdays, when students are all learning virtually from home, we will utilize a block schedule. In a block schedule, students will attend half of their classes in a day. We feel it is best for students to use a traditional bell schedule during their in-person learning days because it allows teachers to work in-person with students each day they are in school. We feel it is best to utilize a block schedule on Wednesdays because it allows students more flexibility to complete on-going assignments and learning activities, while also providing time with teachers in a virtual setting. Please note this is a change from what was originally communicated in our Level 2 Roadmap to Reopening Plan. The schedule is linked below. The portal is open for students to view their schedule. The hybrid model divides the student body in half with the following breakdown.
Students Last Name (A-L) are assigned the AA Schedule
Students Last Name (M-Z) are assigned the BB Schedule
Masks/Social Distancing
All students, staff, and guests will be required to wear a mask in the building. The building will also be implementing social distancing guidelines in the classroom and common areas to adhere to district guidelines.
Finally, we would like you all to know that the Liberty Family is here for you all. Please let us know if you need any help. We know this is quite an adjustment for everyone and their families. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Eagle Pride, Eagle Family!
WSD Grade Reporting Update
We are excited to share a change in our grade reporting practices for the 2020-21 school year. This year, we will be shifting from four quarters of learning to two semesters of learning. In considering what is best for our students, we feel this shift in reporting practices is necessary for the following reasons:
Official transcripts include only a semester grade making the reporting of a quarter grade unnecessary.
We strive to produce college-ready students and this grading practice is in line with most colleges around the nation.
By eliminating quarters, students have all semester to improve their grades.
As a result of this shift, students will receive report cards at the end of each semester rather than at the end of each quarter. Weekly grade updates will continue to be provided and a mid-semester update will also be provided.
