Stingray Sentinel August 10th
News for the Families of Duval Charter School at Southside
Remember ..... New School Start Date - August 20th. Our charter contract says that we will start the same first day as DCPS. Superintendent Greene & the DCPS school board have chosen to delay the start of school. We do not have an updated proposed calendar as we will need to see what Duval proposes.
Orientation!!
This week we will be posting videos to watch on the webpage under Parents / Orientation 2020/21 to make sure you have things you need to know, etc.!! On Wed, Thurs., Friday, Principal Sauer will be live on Facebook giving an overview of each instructional model - one per day. We hope you can join in on your lunch time and ask questions! The videos will remain on social media and be posted to our website for those that could not attend.
Kindergarten families will be able to sign up for an optional socially distanced meet and greet the teachers on site - August 17-19th! Families in groups of threes will gather in the classroom. This is in addition to the virtual orientation
Who is my child's teacher ? Schedules and teacher assignments will be visible in Powerschool starting Friday, August 14th.
Teachers will contact their students the week of August 17th with links for their specific virtual/zoom orientations! Middle School will have grade level orientations online and we will email those links out on the morning of the 17th.
Kindergarten families will be able to sign up for socially distanced meet and greet the teachers on site - August 17-19th! Families in groups of threes will gather in the classroom.
Required & Optional Forms - the link below will take you to our new orientation part of our website. There you will find the two required forms for this year, and also some optional forms for aftercare, medication, walkers, etc.
Flex Model - Which Days? - we will email out by this Wednesday what days your child is assigned. Most parents were given their first choice especially for those that chose early and have not changed models. Mon/Tuesday is now full. Those that said either would work, have been assigned Thurs/Friday on campus. Again, we will email you by Wednesday to confirm what days your child learns on campus and what days they will be fully mobile.
I need technology for my child...
If you have a device to use for now, we will let you know when the new laptops are here and we are ready to go 1:1 for all of middle school.
Supplies, Latops, iPads, Books, Oh My! When do we pick up??
Fully Mobile students will have a pick up date and time that will coordinate with any technology/password pick up. On site students will have their supply box located in their classroom, or it can be picked up during the pick up times set for fully mobile, if you would rather label names etc. first.
School Supply lists are located on our website under "Parents" www.southsidecharter.org - If you ordered the pre-boxed supplies, they have arrived and we are checking them in off the pallet
We are leaving the timeframes open on the 18th & 19th for technology pick up so come as it fits your schedule. Please come between 8:30-11:30am or 12:30-3:00 on either date to pick up technology or supplies for fully mobile or flex model students.

Uniform - Dress Policy 2020-21
Dress Code – School Attire Policy
A higher standard of dress encourages greater respect for individuals, students and others, and results in a higher standard of behavior. Our dress code guidelines indicate appropriate school dress during normal school days for every student. Please read the parent handbook for the complete uniform policy.
Mobile Students - are highly encouraged but not required to wear their uniform to set the tone for learning, but we realize some families at home due to at-risk family members are not yet comfortable shopping and might not have uniforms or uniforms that fit. For Mobile sessions - fully mobile students may not wear bathing suits, tank tops or pajamas.
