Ku Engineering Expo

Mill Creek Voyagers scored one GOLD medal!

KU Engineering Day

The Voyagers students worked hard since the beginning of third quarter on entries for KU Engineering Day. The Engineering Expo is an annual student-organized event which is held during National Engineers’ week. Since 1911, EXPO has strived to create excitement and interest in the fields of math, science, and engineering. The day began with a speaker-- Steven Hawley, a five time space shuttle astronaut. The students then went to the engineering buildings to participate in the following competitions.

  • Archery- 6 students
  • Gravity Car- 1 student
  • Rube Goldberg- 4 students
  • Skyscraper- 5 students
  • Water Rocket- 3 students
  • Chemical Car- 4 students
  • Pasta Bridge- 2 students
  • Egg Drop- 8 students

I was proud of all of our competitors, but our sixth grade chemical car team (Ty, Mason, and Brett) were the only ones to take home a medal--and a GOLD one at that! Way to go, Boys!

The day is always a bit chaotic with so many students participating, but hopefully the students got the opportunity to see some of the exhibits or other competitions and enjoyed the day.
