Strive for less than Five! Hawthorne Attendance Campaign
Research shows that attendance is one of the best predictors
for ongoing student success.
We want to maintain a school average of 97%
attendance rate! You can help us achieve this goal!
Please help your child arrive to school on time each and every day.
Let's strive for less than 5 absences!
Every minute of instruction counts!
Please be sure that your child only misses school
when it is absolutely necessary. Schools are funded on days of daily attendance and
we do not receive funds when a student is absent, excused or
not. Without these funds we will not be able to have
programs/materials necessary for our students!
Please call the office right away at 909) 986-6582 if
your child is absent or will be absent.
This year students who come to school everyday on time will participate in special incentives (special assemblies, prizes, events, just to name a few!) You won't want to miss out!!
Let's start the year right!
Morning and After school Dismissal Drop off/Pick Up Reminders
Our Back gate has a bussing zone that needs to be clear so that our children can arrive and depart safely. You may notice that we added extra patrol to keep our students safe! Please adhere to the Bus Zone rule of NO parking in the bus zone!! It is for the student safety!!
Please be sure your child knows what the pick up arrangements are before they go to school.
Please leave early and be extra patient when dropping off and/or picking up your child(ren).
As always, our primary goal is keeping all of our students safe; however, we NEED your help! Please adhere to the rules of road!
We would prefer our families to be safe than be rushed and not follow the rules. This is something that could potentially be very dangerous!
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Nutrition Corner
We are seeing students drinking Starbucks for breakfast, drinking Monster Energy drinks and a bringing family size chips as their "food" for the day.
We ask parents that they abstain from having our students bring these items to school.
Research shows that eating junk foods can lead to swelling in the part of the brain that has a major role in memory. A study performed in humans showed that eating an unhealthy breakfast high in fat and sugar for 4 days in a row caused disruptions to the learning and memory parts of the brain [6].Apr 25, 2022 www.frontiersin.org In addition, eating these sugary and unhealthy ingredients can cause obesity and depression in our students.
At Hawthorne we offer a quality and nutritious breakfast and lunch everyday! Your child may also bring a healthy lunch as well. Thank you for supporting our efforts in ensuring our Hawks stay strong and healthy!
Important Reminders

California Wellness Standards
Following California Wellness Standards, both the Ontario-Montclair District and Hawthorne Elementary adhere to a Wellness Policy regarding what is offered to students to consume on campus. Our Hawthorne community strongly supports the Wellness policy, as it promotes healthier living and better learning opportunities for children. The following is a summary of the policy guidelines: 1) No food items prepared in private homes may be offered to students. 2) No items high in sugar, salt, or fat may be offered to students (ex: cake, cupcakes, cookies, icecream, popsicle, soda, etc.)
If you would like to bring a snack to your child’s classroom, please speak to the teacher first. Allowable classroom snack items include pretzels, graham crackers, nuts (please check for nut allergies), dried fruit, etc.
We highly recommend items such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks, etc. for celebrations. A full version of the Wellness Policy is available at Hawthorne’s front office. We want our students to be healthy!
Cell Phone Policy Reminder
We have noticed that there have been students misusing cell phones during the school day. Please help support us by reviewing the following with your child:
*Phones will be collected at the beginning of the day and stored in pocket chart in classroom.
*Phones are returned to students before dismissal
*Calls can be made at the designated dismissal gate: supervised
*Consequences:
1st offense: phone held until the end of day: Note home to let parent know
2nd offense and beyond: parent must pick up phone in office, student will receive a discipline referral.
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and supports)
At Hawthorne Elementary, we have implemented a district-wide Behavior Program called PBIS- Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support.
We have 3 expectations at our school:
* Caring
*Principled
*Respectful
Our teachers are busy with our Hawks discussing our three expectations by showing them what each one looks like in a school setting.
Students will be awarded tickets each time they demonstrate being Caring, Respectful, and Principled!
Please support us by talking to your child about the importance of each expectation!
ELOP (Extended Learning Opportunities ) Activities for our Hawks and Hawkettes!
Did you know that at Hawthorne not only do we provide our students with rigorous lessons but we also provide them with AMAZING enrichment afterschool activities?
If you are interested in any of our afterschool programs, please contact our Coordinator for ELOP: Ms.Carreon in the front office.
