Principal Message
As I look out my window as snow is falling, I’m reflecting on how much our lives have changed in this last year. Snow days for staff and families have always been a special time to slow down and spend some fun time together. Although day is not a “snow day” I hope that you still take time to play together and enjoy the snow. I’m hoping we get enough snow so I can get outside and make a snow sculpture - I have some ideas swirling in my head.
You will have received an email with a survey from our district about hybrid and what you want to do for the 4th quarter. If you need help with completing the survey, you can call our office at 503-916-6336 or come to Supply Picks on Thursday 12-4:30pm and we will walk you through completing the survey. We need all families to complete the survey for all students so that we can create the best plan possible for our Bridger Community. You can watch discussion about hybrid in this YouTube Video at 1:38-2:03 for presentation and then 2:03-3:00 for discussion.
This week we started contacting families about joining us for Limited In Person Instruction. All the safety precautions that we are setting up for LIPI will help us transition over to Hybrid.
Here the video of the family meeting where we shared details about LIPI with invited families.
We have some great news to share, that our new playground construction started yesterday with fencing being put up around the construction site. Please help us by staying away from this construction site as our playgrounds/fields are still closed to the public.
Enjoy the snow!
Melissa Schachner, Principal

A Reminder About Immunizations
Hello Bridger families!
For those of you who haven't met me, my name is Elise Miller, and I am the health assistant at Bridger. As we get closer to returning to school, I would like to remind parents that students who are returning to in person learning are approaching the date required (2/17) for all immunizations, including boosters, to be updated. If your student is not returning to in person learning, they will not be excluded from comprehensive distance learning if they are not up to date. Students who are returning for sports, LIPI, band, or any in person activities will need to be up to date by exclusion day (2/17). A few families have expressed discomfort in bringing their children to a doctor during this time, and I would encourage families to either reach out to their provider, myself, or our Nurse Jennifer Hoesly, for solutions including drive through vaccination that is offered through some providers. I can be reached at Cmiller2@mesd.k12.or.us for any questions or concerns.
I miss seeing all of you at school, and hope this message finds all of you well!
Thank you.

Hi Bridger!!
Here is a big update that I wanted to share:
Currently, I am accepting requests for support for families that at COVID-affected via this GoogleForm: https://forms.gle/4c3Lwc932LjjTd688.
I want to be very transparent that right now our Wait List is so full that I cannot put a request for support in at this time, but I am still collecting this information so that I can put referrals in as soon as our system is open.
In Winter 2020, there were a lot of funds from the CARES Act and we were able to offer quite a bit of support for our families- including wage relief, rental support, and gift cards when possible. Unfortunately we are not in that same place at this time, and the financial support we can offer is a lot less at this time and is NOT guaranteed.
Our goal is to continue to support families as best we can, and I will continue to do my best to continue to offer support to our Bridger community as much as I can.
That being said, if you are in need of rent assistance, PLEASE complete the Eviction Moratorium paperwork provided by the state. I will also have forms printed out and available at the Free Food Market on February 19th (next week). This gives you eviction protection until July 1st.
All languages for this form can be found here: https://multco.us/chair-kafoury/covid-19-eviction-moratorium-information.
February Bridger Free Food Market:
Please note: the time of the market is slightly earlier to accommodate the sunset with the outdoor market and to prioritize the safety of visitors and volunteers.
When: Friday, February 19th, from 2:30-4pm
Where: in the Bridger Elementary School parking lot (next to the field) - 7910 SE Market St.
The food is available to everyone in the community; you can take food for your neighbors as well. Please see the details and safety requirements below:
- The market is walk-up
- Market will include a walk through shopping model this month- DON'T FORGET YOUR BAGS!
- Face coverings/Masks required
- Maintain at least 6 feet between yourself and others
- Please send someone to shop for you/stay home if you are experiencing any symptom of COVID-19 (cough, fever, chills, sore throat, muscle or body aches, nausea, etc.)
Contact Melany if you would like to volunteer or have any questions: melany@latnet.org or 503-502-1485.
As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns! I am here for you and I miss y'all.

Counselor Corner
Ms LeAnne K-4: Starting the week of February 16th, Bridger students will be participating in several weeks of curriculum and activities around Black Lives Matter in Schools. We’re excited to teach and learn together about the 13 Principles of Black Lives Matter! The first week, students will learn about the movement and will discuss the principles of Empathy, Loving Engagement, Globalism and Diversity. We’ll be asking students to reflect on: how can they show each of these principles in their daily lives and demonstrate that black lives matter?

Bridger Library
We enjoy seeing families on Thursday afternoons and will continue to offer book bag checkout each Thursday from 12-4:30! In addition, students can place books on Hold and pick them up during the same timeframe. If you have questions, please email library staff: Dawn Jardine (djardine@pps.net) or Brenda Jamsgard (bjamsgard@pps.net).
This month, Library lessons are focused on different genres through the lens of books written by Black authors and/or books including Black protagonists. Please check in with your students to make sure they are logging into the library classroom and completing the weekly activities; lessons are posted by Monday morning and can be completed during the suggested library time for their class or at any point throughout the week.
Night Night: Digital Bedtime Stories by Black Men is a fantastic opportunity offered each Wednesday at 4pm and 7pm. You and your student can log on to listen to stories chosen and read by Black men. The read-alouds are about 30-minutes long and are interactive, with both the host and the reader engaging with families and students. If you are interested in listening to the weekly stories, you can register here.
If your student is looking for resources for online reading, they can access many different options - including TumbleBooks, Storytime from Space, and our online catalog - by visiting the Bridger Library web page here.

Distance Learning Tips and Tricks
Good morning Bridger community,
This week we are back to our regularly scheduled program of distance learning tips and tricks. I hope you were able to give yourself just a little break last week because you deserve it.
Today, I want to share with you a blog post from Edmentum, an education website. This blog post is 7 tips to help students develop effective study skills. This is something that I believe all students could use right now as they spend some of their time learning asynchronously.
I hope you enjoy the blog post:
