How are schools redesigning the learning experience for 21st century students?
The Quest to Learn school, mentioned in the video, designs instruction around a game design. When examining a Mission from Quest to Learn, technology is not the focus, but simply tools students use to help in their learning journey.

Why do I need to know about the needs of 21st century students to design effective instruction?
The Framework for Teaching, by Charlotte Danielson and adapted by the Kentucky Department of Education as part of teacher evaluation, clearly states attributes of effective teaching. According the Danielson, " Teachers don’t teach content in the abstract; they teach it to students. In order to ensure student learning, therefore, teachers must know not only their subject content and its related pedagogy but the students to whom they wish to teach that content." In order to teach a 21st century student content and skills, teachers need to have an understanding of the needs of a 21st century learner.
