St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 5 - Term 4 (Thursday 12 November)
St Jerome’s Primary School acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners and Elders, both past and present, of the lands on which this school is located.
Dear Parents and members of our school community
Blessing
May the God of creation warm your heart like the campfires of old.
Bring wisdom and peace as shown to the first peoples of this land.
Shake off the dust from the desert plains by the refreshing rains
followed by the glow and warmth of the sun.
Let the light of God show us the right path
and stand tall like the big river gums
drawing life from the ever flowing waters.

Psalm 23 – Aboriginal Style by Uncle Rev Ron Williams
My big fella boss up in the sky is like the father Emu.
He will always look after me and take me to green grass,
and lead me to where the water holes are
full and fresh all the time.
He leads me away from the thick scrub and helps me keep safe from the hunters, dingoes and eagles.
At night time when I am very lonely and sad,
I will not be afraid,
for my Father covers me with his feathers
like a father emu.
His spear and shield will always protect me.
My big fella boss always give me a good feed
in the middle of my enemies.
In hot times he makes me sit down in a cool shade and rest.
He gives me plenty of love and care all of my life through.
Then I will live with my big fella boss like a father emu:
that cares for his chicks in good country, full of peace and safety
For evermore and evermore
We are well into Term Four now and the pace is really starting to pick up as we have so many different events and activities happening. Tomorrow we will be hosting our grandparents here at the school and the children are all very excited about showing off their classrooms and how they learn in today’s world. Grandparents are invited into the school from 9am. We will have our wonderful Student Councillors at the front of the school gates with lists of students and classes. They will then be able to direct or take grandparents to the appropriate classrooms. Morning tea will begin at 10:30am. There are four tea and coffee stations spread around the school with plates of food for grandparents. This will help us to maintain social distancing. Grandchildren are encouraged to bring along something special to eat for recess to share with their grandparents. Extra parking on the oval, with access via the black gate on Minga place will be available from 8:15am. We look forward to welcoming all our grandparents to St Jerome’s tomorrow.
COVID Drill
On Wednesday, the students successfully practiced the COVID drill, requiring them to move either to the front of the school or to the rear of the oval, to be collected by their parents. This plan will be enacted in the event of a case of COVID being confirmed within the community, requiring the school to be shut down immediately. Parents will need to remember which of the two pickup stations they need to access.
Parents of children whose surnames begin with the letters A-K should pick their children from main drive-through at the front of the school; children whose surnames begin with the letters L-Z are to be picked up from the gates at the back of the oval. If your children have different surnames, then you go by the eldest child’s surname. A text message, followed by a detailed email reminding you of all this, will be sent out at the time of confirmation of the positive diagnosis.
Aladdin and Picnic on the Grass Community Event
Rehearsals for our end of year production of Aladdin are in full swing and our young cast are very excited as they prepare to wow us all with their efforts! Tickets for the production will be available via a link further into the Principal’s Post today.
Join us from 5pm on the school oval for a picnic. Bring along your own picnic; or enjoy a sausage sizzle; delights from Coogee Continental Deli; The Mobile Gelato Cart or The Cake Nook. Popcorn, Fairy Floss and Glow Sticks will also be on sale! There will be pre-show entertainment including magicians and Balloon Artists before the performance begins at 7pm.
This should be a wonderful evening for our whole community, not just families of the cast. This is an opportunity for you and your family to see a great live production and spend time prior to the start of Aladdin with Mrs O’Toole, enjoying a picnic on the grass. As this will be the last community event attended by Mrs O’Toole before she retires, we encourage all our families to make this night a night to remember for all concerned.
NAIDOC Week
This week we celebrated NAIDOC week and all our students have been involved in a variety of related activities. Those parents visiting the school this week will certainly have noticed the wonderful NAIDOC display in the front office and undercover area. Thank you to our wonderful Educational Assistants for setting this up.
Annual School Community Meeting and School Board and P&F Nominations 2021
A reminder that our ANNUAL SCHOOL COMMUNITY MEETING will be held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday 25 November at 7pm. This is a shared meeting between the School Board and the P&F. The purpose of the meeting is to report to the parent body on the activities of the Board and P&F during the current year, to outline plans for the future and to conduct elections to each body for the following year. The School Board will also present its draft budget for 2021.
Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the evening.
The last P&F meeting for the year took place on Tuesday evening with a disappointing turn out. The P&F Executive Committee now have a few places becoming vacant as we see the retirement of Nikki Dragicevic and Narelle Dryland. We thank both ladies for their service to the families of St Jerome’s.
The roles now vacant and for which we are seeking nominations are the Vice president, Secretary and Treasurer. If you enjoy organizing events or just want to help make a difference in the community, then send though your completed nomination form to the office by Monday 23 November. Voting for the positions will take place at the AGM on 25 November at 7pm.
We would certainly like to see you at this meeting and we also encourage you to nominate for a position on either the Board or the P&F. Involvement with the School Board or P&F is very rewarding and gives the opportunity to be closely associated with the school. Below are the relevant nomination forms. You are free to nominate yourself or some other person; however if you nominate another person, you must obtain that person's signature on the nomination form.

Dogs on School Grounds
Over the last few weeks we are seeing more and more families bringing their dogs to school when dropping their children to school and picking them up in the afternoon. Last week we had someone’s dog jump up on a small child, frightening the child and causing distress. It has always been the case that dogs are not allowed on school grounds. The exception to this is our Wellness Dog, Jinkx, who is officially a member of staff here at school! I respectfully ask that parents do not bring their dogs onto school grounds. Many thanks for your support and cooperation.

E-mail and phone orders are available for everyone – you will need to know sizes required and provide your child’s name and class and card details for payment.
