PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
November 16, 2023
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
It's hard to believe, but winter weather is on the way. At Park, students go outside unless it is below 15 degrees, so they must be prepared each day. That means the following items should come to school daily: COAT, BOOTS, SNOW PANTS, HAT, GLOVES, SCARF, etc. The best way to send these items to school is in a reusable grocery bag. Marc's sells big ones that hold everything nicely and seem to last the season. PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!!!
A few other things to mention:
We do not wear boots in the classroom, so be sure your child has indoor shoes to wear.
Students without the appropriate snow clothes will not be allowed to play in areas with snow, and will have to remain on the blacktop at recess.
Extra socks come in handy, so feel free to keep an extra pair in the snow gear bag.
Students must be able to dress themselves, which includes zipping coats and putting on gloves.
From the Principal Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families:
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. It has been a fantastic year at Park so far, and I am truly grateful for the wonderful students and staff I get to work with everyday.
I am also thankful for the unwavering support, involvement and commitment of our parents and guardians. Your partnership in your child's education is invaluable and it plays a significant role in their success at school.
Our students continue to amaze me everyday with their curiosity, perseverance, and their boundless enthusiasm for learning. The hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff, along with your at-home support, have been instrumental in nurturing these young minds.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the abundance in our lives and to appreciate the blessings we often take for granted. As you gather with your loved ones and share delicious meals, take a moment to reflect on the many things for which you are grateful. I am thankful for my health, my family, my friends, ANYWHERE THERE IS A BEACH and this wonderful country in which we live. I am also grateful for the sound of laughter in our cafeteria when the students spin the weekly wheel, the excitement of discovery in our students' eyes when they have that “Ah Ha” moment in math and the feel of community that permeates our school everyday, especially on Axolotl Election Day or during our Veterans Day Assembly!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I encourage you to consider ways to support those in need during this holiday season. Small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others and they exemplify the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
Thank you for being a part of the Park family. I am grateful for the privilege of serving as your principal and I am excited to see what the future holds for our students. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and moments of gratitude.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Students in second grade took a field trip to the Century Village Museum! This venue was selected because it offered students a "real world" connection to their Wit and Wisdom reading unit which focused on the settlement of the West. Mrs. Haines' students COLLABORATED to make marbles, a popular toy/game in pioneer days, out of clay and learned how all of the ingredients CONTRIBUTED to the final product. Once the marbles dried, they were able to paint them! The students also toured a log cabin and schoolhouse.
