This Is How We Lakeview
October 2022 Edition: Volume 3
We have the last of our October Professional Learning days next week.
Here are the expectations for those days:
Monday, Oct 24th - Professional Development Day (no work assigned on this day)
Tuesday, Oct 25th - Virtual Learning Day (students will have assignments, please have them check their Google Classrooms and school email)
If your student wants to dress up for Halloween, we will be dressing up on Monday, October 31st as this is Trick or Treat Night for Pickerington. Students must follow the student dress code and no face paint or full face mask.
For further guidance on appropriateness ask these questions:
1. Is my costume supposed to be funny? Is the humor based on making fun of real people, human traits or cultures?
2. Does my costume represent a culture that is not my own?
3. Does my costume reduce cultural differences to jokes or stereotypes?
4. Does my costume packaging include the words "traditional," "ethnic," "colonial, " "cultural," "authentic," or "tribal"?
5. Does my costume perpetuate stereotypes, misinformation, or historical and cultural inaccuracies?
6. Would I be embarrassed or ashamed if someone from the group I'm portraying saw me wearing this?
If you have any concerns about your student's costume please feel free to contact the main office, 614-830-2200.

How Pickerington Schools Has Managed Its Resources Wisely
How Pickerington Schools Has Managed Its Resources Wisely
As you consider the Pickerington Schools bond issue on the Nov. 8 ballot, it is important that we share information about how wisely the district has managed its resources over the past dozen years. Pickerington Schools has not sought levies for operations from the community since August of 2011. During that period of time, the district has consistently carried adequate operating reserves to meet its needs. For the 2020-21 school year, the district spent the 3rd lowest among its comparison peers in expenditure per pupil.
Perhaps even more importantly, the district’s administrative expenditure per pupil is also the 5th lowest among its peer groups, which indicates that we concentrate our expenditures on the programs and activities that impact our students the most.
Further, Pickerington Schools offers a fantastic value compared to its Ohio Department of Education (ODE) similar district grouping. The charts below show the expenditure per equivalent pupil (EPEP) calculated by ODE for the 2020-21 school year. The EPEP weights the enrollment for expenditures for students in certain categories (e.g. special education, gifted, English Learners, etc.). The weights on these learners are added to recognize the additional staffing and other programmatic expenses to meet their needs. The EPEP is then compared to the Performance Index (PI) score on the 2020-21 Ohio School Report card. The district ranks 3rd highest in PI score, and does so by spending the 3rd lowest in the group.
Learn more about the bond issue on our website. Don’t forget that early in-person and absentee voting by mail is open now, and election day is Nov. 8. More information about voting is available on the Vote Ohio website.

Recent Updates
- Thank you to those families who shared feedback with us through the Lakeview Families Survey the past few weeks. Our PBIS: Social Justice sub-group met yesterday to review the data, and our hope is that the conversation surrounding the topics in the survey don’t end with the close of the survey.
- Even if you didn’t get a chance to complete the survey – or if you did but want to expand on your feedback – please use the anonymous feedback form below to share your thoughts. We want to hear from our families!
Updates from the Family Feedback Form
- Two pieces of feedback came in within the past week regarding the lockdown on October 11th. One positive that families shared is that their student(s) felt safe during the lockdown and that the staff did a good job helping the students stay calm. Keeping the students safe and ensuring they felt safe was our priority, so that is good to hear!
One area that we definitely need to improve is timely communication. This was a piece of feedback from families as well as a major discussion point in our district staff debrief with law enforcement. During the debrief, we discussed changes to our communication procedures in events like this so it will be quicker in the future.
