ELA
This week in ELA we continue to read Wonder , by R.J. Palicio as a class. Our focus is in figurative language, character analysis, and comprehension of the chapters read. We have started a unit on argument writing. Some components of this unit includes: taking a stand or making a claim, using evidence and an explanation to support your claim, introducing counter-claims, rebuttals, and finally ending with a strong conclusion with recommendations. We are also working on writing sprints to increase stamina in writing. Some students are currently up to writing one half of a page in three minutes.
Social Studies
We are taking Cornell notes over the chapter, Ancient Mesopotamia, and completing the assessments at the end of each section. Students will complete a poster that details the information studied .
Electives
Students are continuing to work on Genius Hour/ Passion Projects. We continue to have AVID tutorials on Thursdays only. Friday is a day to reflect upon the week's learnings , have binders checked for organization, and focus on college and career planning.
