SIG YALE 2013

Teaching students, not curriculum

Welcome!

Dear SIG Community,

Welcome to the Summer Institute for the Gifted at Yale University! We are so happy to have your child join our program this year.

With check-in day and our first full day of classes behind us, we are getting settled into our routines and getting to know each other. The first day of classes was filled with nervous energy and excitement as we embark on our academic adventure together. Instructors are assisting each student in setting their academic objectives for the session.

We are really thrilled to be eating in Silliman Dining Hall this year. Recently, It was voted the best food on Yale's campus for the 7th year in a row!!

Academics

It's been an amazing first couple of days. From investigating how courtrooms run to creating a dream log, students are engaging in critical thinking, analysis and group work. Already, students are determining their objectives for the session and are creating a detailed work plan of how to achieve them! It's quite thrilling to go into the classrooms and see such lively discussions, creative art work, and thoughtful writing. As you can see below, students are even enjoying their evening study tutorials.

Evening Programs

Even though we've only spent two nights at Yale, we have been busy. On Saturday night each counselor led a get-to-know you activity with their group. Some had a rock, paper, scissors world championship, some played name games and some enjoyed the cool evening air throwing around a football. But overall the main objective was met-- getting to know each other a little better. By midnight, almost everyone had checked in, even our travelers that flew in from across the world! We have students from so many places and it will make for a remarkable experience for us all.
