“Being a school counselor has allowed me to make a difference in children’s lives and support them as they overcome challenges that they never believe they can,” said Kroll in acknowledging the award. “I love what I do and am grateful that I can honestly go to ‘work’ every day knowing that.”

“Pretend Professionals” at Emerick. I have also used them with my kindergarten classes when we talk about tools, hats, and uniforms that people use in their jobs.
Forest Grove Elementary School - Alysia Brown
During the entire month of February the Forest Grove School community promoted and practiced Kindness with our theme, “Falcons are Kindness Champions!”. We kicked off the first week by practicing kindness to ourselves through positive self-talk, deep-breathing, and taking care of our bodies. During the second week student and staff could be found practicing kindness to others by giving someone a compliment, saying good-morning, writing a thank you note to their teacher or parent. Then our last two weeks classrooms were challenged to complete acts of kindness in their classrooms and around their school by pulling their kindness card challenge, completing their kind act, and tweeting it out. We also enjoyed random acts of kindness throughout the week from our Secret Kindness Agents who showered the classrooms, bathrooms, and café with encouraging words and kind messages. Finally, we celebrated with a great Kindness Spirit Week and a door decorating contest!

The pennants are representing colleges and universities attended by our staff. Mrs. Cohen contacted all the colleges listed on last year’s survey. If you do not find your pennant please feel free to follow up with the college you attended to send one our way. We would like to have ALL represented!!!!!!!

Also, lessons were provided to students on career clusters.

High School News
"Park View High School Senior Job Fair sponsored by the Erin Peterson Fund was a huge success!! We had 26 companies and 100 students attend the event. We targeted our students who were planning to stay local after graduation. These students participated in a resume writing workshop and an interviewing skills workshop to prepare for the job fair. Student came dressed to impress! Companies were impressed with our students, saying they were very professional, well prepared, asked great questions, and were all around incredibly polite. Our students said they loved the fair and it was great getting to learn about companies in the area who were hiring, it helped make them feel a little more prepared with plans for after graduation."

For students who are continuing with the full term, spring break is an EXCELLENT time for a concentrated effort for students to make big progress in their courses. NEW for Term 3: Students MUST use their LCPS Gmail. If your students do not know how to access their LCPS email, please encourage them to visit our “Technology Resources” page for the “How Do I …” questions and open the “How do I access my LCPS Gmail account?” for the step by step directions and screen shots for how to access this email: https://www.lcps.org/domain/22015.
Term 1 registration for the 2019-2020 school year will open on Friday, May 20th and will remain open through Friday, August 16th.
