Championing Chiefs Spirit: A Super Bowl-Inspired Dress Up Week
By Liz Berning and Mylee Weathered
Throughout this week, our school embraced dress-up days in support of Pennies for Patients. Observations revealed interesting trends: Tuesday witnessed a greater enthusiasm among students, outshining the participation of teachers. Wednesday, however, saw a harmonious balance, with both students and teachers equally contributing to the spirited dress-up atmosphere.
Thursday brought a unique fashion statement, as a noticeable number of teenage boys sported hats, setting a distinctive trend for the day. Finally, on Friday, it was the middle schoolers who took the lead in embracing the dress-up spirit, creating a vibrant culmination to the week's festivities.
These daily shifts in participation and style added an extra layer of fun and diversity to our Pennies for Patients initiative, showcasing the varied and dynamic spirit of our school community.

From Mosaic Life Care- Albany:
"In a friendly second grade class, our intern, Jenna (high school student at Albany High School), turned into a handwashing hero for a group of excited kids. With a cool presentation and an exciting activity; which entailed covering one’s hands in germ juice, to simulate how germy your hands could be. Once covered in germ juice it was now time to wash. Jenna showed them the right way to wash their hands and explained why it's important. She made it fun, telling them to sing their favorite songs while washing, making sure they scrubbed for 20 seconds. After everyone’s hands were washed, she used a black light to shine on everyone’s hands to see if they washed their hands appropriately. If not, the black light would show that they had not washed long enough. By the end of the class, the students knew not only how to wash their hands but also why it keeps them healthy.
“I’m glad to make handwashing fun for these little kids,” says Jenna. “And to see how happy they are when washing their hands.”
After the handwashing lesson, Jenna asked the kids what they learned. The little ones eagerly shared that washing hands helps keep away germs, stops sickness and keeps them strong. Jenna’s teaching made handwashing not just a routine but a fun and smart thing to do. It was a special day for the students, thanks to Jenna turning a simple task into a cool and important lesson about staying healthy."
