Kelly Newsletter
August/September 2019
Dear Kelly Families,
As we prepare to begin our school year we want to extend a heartfelt welcome back to you all. We have many new families and we are excited to have you as part of our Kelly School family. We hope you had an opportunity to relax and enjoy the summer months together. For students, parents and staff this time of year brings anticipation and excitement.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at our Open House on Tuesday, August 20th from 4:00-6:00pm. Students may bring their classroom supplies with them on this night. During this time you will also have the opportunity to visit with your child's teacher, deposit money into your child's lunch account, buy bus tickets, visit with PTO, purchase a Chromebook case (grades 4-5) and gather additional information.
Please read the newsletter for important back to school information. Enjoy your last weeks of summer and we will see you soon!

2019-2020 ENROLLMENT
Every student at Kelly School needs to be registered in the PowerSchool Parent Portal for the upcoming year. If you did not complete this over the spring/summer you will need to do it immediately. Go to https://grand-forks.ps.state.nd.us/public/home.html Enter your access ID and password and then click on the “Registration 2019-2020” link.
Most of you should have already received your access ID and password. If you have questions please call the office at 746-2265.
If you have moved over the summer please contact our office at 746-2265 to let us know.
CLASS LISTS
The class lists will be posted on August 20th. With parents having access to PowerSchool you may notice that a teacher has been assigned to your child. HOWEVER this teacher assignment is very fluid and changes will be made up until August 20th. MONTHLY FUEL UP EVENTS
This year we will be taking a ride on the Energy Bus and we invite all of you to ride along with us. Our theme is based on a book written by Jon Gordon titled The Energy Bus for Kids. It is a story about staying positive and overcoming challenges. Each month we will learn about one of the rules that can help us on the ride of our lives.
Beginning in October you are invited to attend a Monthly Fuel Up Event. During these events you’ll learn alongside your children as you have discussions and participate in activities. It is our hope that these events help to build the home/school connection and that you are able to use the Energy Bus rules at home.
If you have more than one child at Kelly School, you may bring your children together into one classroom each month. Please alternate so each child is still able to attend their own classes Monthly Fuel Up Events. It will be helpful to have a plan in place before the event begins so that all events can begin on time.
These are the dates and times of this year's Monthly Fuel Up Events. We hope you can join us as we fill our tanks with knowledge and positivity.

LUNCHROOM INFORMATION
- The Free and Reduced Lunch Application is available at the bottom of this newsletter in the attachments. You can also pick up a paper copy of this form in the office if needed. If you qualify please complete the form and turn it into the school office or kitchen during open house. IF YOU QUALIFIED FOR THIS PROGRAM IN THE PAST YOU WILL STILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE FORM FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR.
- Child lunch costs $2.20. Child breakfast costs $1.20.
- You can check your child's lunch account balance and meal purchases or pay for your child's lunch by going to myschoolbucks.com It's super easy and convenient!
- Parents are always welcome however during the first two weeks of school we ask that parents refrain from joining your child for lunch at Kelly School. The lunchroom is a busy place and during this time the students are trying to remember their lunch numbers, learn the procedures and make new friends.
- In accordance with the Grand Forks Public School Wellness Policy #6175 we strive to be superior in our nutrition standards. This means that no fast food or other restaurant food is allowed in the lunchroom for either student or parent.
