Principal Message

Good Afternoon Pershing Families!

Today we move our clocks forward one hour, so please check all your alarms so students arrive on time school tomorrow morning. Often these adjustments in time can be hard on all of us, especially children, so do what you can to stick to routines and help students get a good night's rest tonight!

Report Cards from Trimester 2 will be sent home Monday, March 14, 2022. They will also be viewable through the Parent Portal Monday after 9a.m.

We have no school Friday, March 18th, and no school Monday, March 21st.

We have a virtual Family Night on March 23rd. Information about how to sign-up and participate with your children will be sent home next week.

Yearbooks are now on sale today and will be at a discounted price until April 1st, so please see the flyer and link below.

The Family and Community Engagement team is hosting a Families Matter Interactive Virtual Conference with breakout workshops on Saturday, March 26th. To learn more and register, visit:

March 23rd is the Pershing Virtual Family Night, as well. Our staff will be leading an evening of Phil Tulga music-inspired learning, and more information will come home this week to RSVP to the event. March 23rd is an Alternative Bell Schedule date and students in Kindergarten through 6th grade will be dismissed at 12:25p.m.

Tomorrow, March 12th, wearing masks becomes optional for students and staff. Wearing a mask is strongly recommended, but not required, except at our testing location on campus. A mask is required when entering the office to conduct a COVID-19 test. This evening, please have a conversation with your child to help them prepare for this transition, reminding your child that some students and staff will continue to wear a mask, and some will not wear a mask when indoors. It is our expectation that all students, staff and guardians will respect each person's decision and feelings. Some will be excited, some will be nervous, and all feelings are okay. For updated protocols, please visit the SJUSD District's COVID-19 Guide:

If you have any questions, concerns, or need for clarification, please reach out. 916-979-8076, or

Nomination deadline for 2023 Certificated Employee of the Year extended to March 18

San Juan Unified and the Board of Education realize that there are many outstanding employees in service within the district. To recognize our certificated employees, the district is accepting nominations for the 2023 Certificated Employee of the Year.

If you know a certificated employee who goes above and beyond for San Juan Unified and the surrounding community, you may nominate them for consideration. The nomination deadline has been extended to Friday, March 18 at 4 p.m.

Any San Juan Unified employee or member of the surrounding community may submit a nomination. Nominees should have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the improvement of educational quality, customer service and performance to his/her school site or department.

Share your input and help shape our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)

San Juan Unified is in the process of revising its Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) to reflect the current needs and priorities of our students. Students, parents, staff and the community are invited to share their thoughts on how to address student needs through a Thoughtexchange. Visit to participate by Friday, March 25.

If you haven’t participated in a Thoughtexchange before, you’ll have the chance to share as many thoughts and ideas on how San Juan Unified could address these specific student group needs. Then, you’ll get to see what others have shared and rank whether those ideas resonate with you.

Feedback collected will help inform the LCAP that describes the goals, actions, services and expenditures to address student needs.
