Principal's Update 10/13/17
Visitors Volunteers & Mentors
We are also recruiting volunteer readers to partner with Education Connection again this year. The face-to-face training dates have passed, so an online training is available. Don't be shy! If you like to read with kids, this is a perfect volunteer program for you. Through the training you will be equipped to read with 2 students, 15 minutes each, once a week. Your 30-minute weekly commitment will make a big difference in helping us reach our literacy goal: every child reading on or above grade level by the end of third grade. Amy Terrazas is our campus coordinator.
Attention ALL Volunteers! Action required! Room Parents, Copy Helpers, Club Coaches, Club Helpers, PTA Volunteers, Field Trip Chaperones, Library Helpers, Mentors, Tutors, Academic UIL Coaches and Helpers - everyone who helps at school: you are all required to complete the Volunteer Application online or submit a paper copy for approval through the England Office. Until your approved status as a volunteer has been confirmed, you will not be able to volunteer or serve in any capacity at school or for school clubs. This is district policy and is for the safety of our students.
Raptor Security
Our first priority is to ensure the safety of our students. Parents and visitors must sign in through the Raptor system in the front office. Raptor was recently upgraded, so all visitors and parents must bring their identification to be entered in the new system. Also, please remember to have an ID available to show staff if you are checking your students out of school early.
Embedding Character Education
LEOPARDS: Loyalty Empathy Open-Mindedness Perseverance Appreciation Resourcefulness Disciplined Service
During October we are highlighting the LEOPARDS trait of Empathy (the ability to understand and share the feelings of another). An excellent way to embed character education throughout the school day is by sharing quality literature. If you are looking for book ideas for reading at home with your child, this list is a good start.
Empathy goes hand-in-hand with Service. We need your support with our current Art Club service project. The England Art Club Houses For Houston project will benefit families affected by recent natural disasters. Contact Art Teachers Suzanne West or Jennifer Shock to support Houses for Houston!
