Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) is coming in April. It is replacing Scantron as the state's summative assessment tool. We are already making plans to introduce our students to the online testing tools necessary to take the assessment. Students would benefit from having a USB mouse for the assessment if they typically use one when using their Chromebook. It's not required but it would be a plus for some students.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
- Every school day in February, our students will read quotes made by prominent figures in Black History, during morning announcements.
- Our students will have the opportunity to learn more about black trailblazers in Alabama while participating in some friendly competition with Bumpus' Black History Month contest.
- Teachers will be integrating content related to Black History Month in their daily lessons.
- On February 27th we will have various speakers at Bumpus who will provide impactful learning experiences for our students.
7th Annual STEM Symposium
GIRLS ENGAGED IN MATH & SCIENCE (G.E.M.S)
The Sky is NOT the Limit! That's the theme for the 2020 Hoover City Schools Girls Engaged in Math and Science (G.E.M.S.) STEM Symposium. This very popular, city-wide event took place Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Rocky Ridge Elementary School.
Though teams have been chosen for this year, teachers always encourage girls to let their teachers know of their interest in G.E.M.S. Teams are typically selected in September/October each school year, depending on the school.
This interactive event brings together girls ages 5-13 from across Hoover City Schools. They showcase their team projects, hear a female motivational speaker in the area of STEM, and engage in hands-on learning activities. STEM curriculum sessions will also be held for parents.
It was a great day- lots of great exhibits and sessions. The guest speakers were from Southern Research Institute and they were amazing.

HHS Counselors come to Bumpus:
On Tuesday, February 11th, HHS Counselors will provide an overview of 9th grade course selections, review the HHS course selection sheet, 4-year plan, and graduation requirements. This will take place during math classes.
RC3 - Open House - Tuesday, February 11th - 6-7:30 pm.
Everyone is welcome. Students can begin attending in the 10th grade.
As an incoming freshman, students can select a Career Prep course that corresponds to an RC3 academy. Then, they apply to attend RC3 during their sophomore year. The career prep course does not determine which academy they can attend at RC3. So if they take regular CP, they can still apply to an RC3 academy.

Hoover High School is proud to offer a diverse curriculum, and we want you to be fully aware of the academic opportunities available. A NOTE FROM NURSE SCHMITH
WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD RETURN TO SCHOOL?
Dear Bumpus parents:
We are asking you to assist us with the appropriate time for your child to return to school. Please review the following guidelines:
1. Fever: Your child should stay home if he/she has a fever of 100 degrees (orally) or more and should remain home for 24 hours after the fever has gone---without the assistance of Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, etc.
2. Vomiting or Diarrhea: Your child should stay home if he/she has vomited or has diarrhea (more than 1 loose stool) within 2 hours prior to the start of school. They must have eaten and tolerated at least 1 normal meal before returning to school.
3. Strep Throat: If you child has been diagnosed as having strep throat (this requires a special test by your doctor), your child should stay home 24 hours after antibiotic therapy has been started.
Our goal is to keep the entire school population as healthy as possible. Together we can accomplish this goal.
You may report any cases of doctor diagnosed flu by contacting the health room at 205-439-2230 or emailing Nurse Schmith at mschmith@hoover.k12.al.us
SCOLIOLIS SCREENING Information
The Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama Department of Public Health require that school districts in Alabama offer and provide scoliosis screening for male and female students in grades 5 through 9.
Screening is performed by observing the uncovered spine, viewing the student from the back, side and from and also with the student bending forward. If a spinal problem in suspected, the child will be rechecked at a second screening. Parents of any student found to have signs of possible spinal abnormality will be asked to see their own physicians for further evaluation.
On February 19th girls and boys will be screened separately to ensure privacy. They can wear gym clothes, bathing suits or other clothing that may be removed easily. Screening for your child will take place within the next two weeks. If your child is currently under treatment for a spinal deformity, please let us know and your child will be exempt from the screening process.
Please complete the consent form below indicating your wishes for screening. Hard copies are also available in the health room.
