In The Laidlaw Loop
Family Update- February 16, 2024
Love was in the air this week. Not only were our Valentine's Day celebrations a smashing success, but there was so much love, support, and school comradery at last night's Variety Show! Kudos to the brave & talented Laidlaw students who elected to get up in front of their peers to perform. I was SO IMPRESSED by the talent our students' possess. Additionally, a huge shoutout to the Variety Show Committee (via PTO) who organize this event. It is not an easy undertaking. Thank you, thank you!
As a gentle reminder, we do not have school this Monday in observance of President's Day. Additionally, students are not in session on Tuesday as our staff members have an all district professional development day.
Happy Friday,
Renee

5 Essentials Survey
Dear Laidlaw Families,
Teachers, parents, and students across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement. This survey was designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about Laidlaw.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois School Board of Education. This survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. The five indicators that effect school success are:
* Effective Leaders *Collaborative Teachers
* Involved Families *Supportive Environments
* Ambitious Instruction
Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators, the “5Essentials” are 10 times more likely to improve student learning.
Your participation in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will help us understand the conditions at Laidlaw and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be conducted now through March 29 . To access the survey, please visit: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
