Parents and Students,
Thank you for staying connected with Klentzman by reading our monthly newsletter! We encourage you to get Involved. Please contact the school if you would like to join our Shared Decision Making Committee, which meets on the third Thursday of each month. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 20 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the library.
We also invite you out to Open House on September 13 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
We will have our first Popcorn with Parents meeting on Tuesday, September 25, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the library, hosted by our counselors, who will give you great information on helping your child over the upcoming school year.
Starting next week, Benchmark tests will be given to all students in Math, Reading, and Science. Students should try their very best on each test. This will help us prepare for the rest of the year to make sure each student is successful and grows academically.

Meet The Assistant Principals
Dr. Henderson has been in Education and in Alief for 22 years. She believes in restorative practices and making sure all students get the opportunity to succeed.
Ms. Molina has been in Alief for 26 years and her 27th year in education. She is excited about working with all students and has been instrumental in the AVID program and our campuses success.

School Shirts and Spirit Items are on sale daily. Please stop by the front office to purchase. Or you can send the money with your student. Receipts will be issued for your purchase.

Please make sure your child comes to school each day with the following:

- Agenda (Checked by parents daily)

Family Center Grand Opening
Please join us on Wednesday, September 12 at 9:00 a.m.
Light breakfast snacks, coffee, and information about the campus and our family center will be provided to you in a fun and interactive way.
Open House-September 13
Join us for open house from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and hear more about the programs Klentzman offers, Title I Campus information, and meet your child's teachers.
If you haven't finished your online registration, we will be able to assist you.
Students of parents that attend will earn free dress on Friday, September 14.
Extracurricular Activities
Klentzman Crew-Boys Step Team
Step Team Clinics will be held on Monday and Tuesday, September 10-11 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tryouts will be on Wednesday, September 12th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. All students who want to participate must attend the clinic, have their own transportation home, and must have their application turned into Mr. Bundage.
K-Squad-Girls Step Team
Girls Step Team Tryouts
Application for the K-Squad Girls Step Team will be available with all elective teachers today through Thursday. Please pick up one today. All applications are due to Mrs. Ates or Mrs. Raven on the 5/6 Hallway by Friday. Step Clinic workshop will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 11-12 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tryouts will be on Thursday, September 13th from 4:00 until the last girl finishes. All students who want to participate must attend the clinic, have their own transportation home. This will be a closed workshop and tryout.
Popcorn With Parents
Band and Orchestra Instrument Night
Please join us on Tuesday September 4 from 5pm-7pm.
If you are interested in Band and orchestra we will be in the school cafeteria and band room assigning instruments and providing supplies for those in the music programs.

Parents, You can track Your Child's Bus Location!
SMART TAG monitors student loading and unloading, providing real-time information to you, the parent.
Your child will scan their smart tag every time they get on and off the bus. By signing up, you can track their trip at anytime.
SMART Tag Parent Portal
- SMART Alerts - Sign up for SMART Alerts and receive emails or text messages when your child is approximately 10 - 15 minutes from their stop.
- SMART Locate - allows parents to view a map showing the bus as their child is being transported
Make sure to register!
Go to Parent Portal and register to take advantage of the SMART tag parent features. If you are using a smartphone, you will be prompted to save the web app to your home screen. This will place the Parent App tile on your mobile device for easy access.
Alief IDOL
We are thrilled to announce the 2018 official Alief Idol Singing Competition! The contest is open to all eligible Alief ISD students grades K-12.
This year we will have two levels of competition with prizes awarded at each level; Elementary/Intermediate and Middle/High School.
Students have until Monday, September 17th to register and submit a link to their video audition.
Semifinalists will be announced October 1, 2018 and the top 6 Elementary/Intermediate semifinalists and top 6 Middle/High School semifinalists will perform live at Hastings HS Theater on October 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.
The top 3 competitors from each category (Elementary/Intermediate and Middle/High School) will perform at the 2018 Alief Proud Day Festival in front of a live panel of judges on November 10, 2018.
1st place winner will receive - $200 gift card, demo recording in a professional recording studio with sound engineer, 2019 Recognition in the Alief Community Parade and 2019 Alief Proud Day Festival performance.
2nd place winner will receive - $100 gift card
3rd place winner will receive - $50 gift card
