Exciting End of the Year!
We have so many exiting things happening in the next couple weeks of school! Our 3rd and 5th graders can cheer because they are finished with testing, and our 4th graders will be there before they know it!
Soon, we have our Spring Showcase Night, Field Day, Parties and Graduation Ceremonies! We hope you can be a part of the great things we are doing towards the end of the year! Please check the calendar below to join us in these events!
We are also getting enthusiastic and starting to plan for next school year! The PTA & School Governance Council (SGC) has been working hard to set us up for success at NPE where we continue to learn at the highest level every day. I want to thank Camie Christensen, Stephanie Haga, Lawanda Estes, Melody Johnson, Rebekah L McGowan, Michelle Kahoiwai, Corey Debrody, Yolane Terblanche and Meghna Gandhi for being a part of this team! They have done great work and we are so grateful for their leadership!
Next year, we will continue to have four RFF (Request for Flexibility) Days, where students will not come to school and teachers will have time for Professional Development. The four RFF days for next year are Tuesday September 3rd, Monday November 4th, Friday February 14th, and Monday, March 16th. These are the same for Webb Bridge MS and Alpharetta HS. The Fulton County Calendar for next year is on the button below. A more detailed NPE calendar will be coming soon!
As always...with love from a very Blessed Panther,

Art Show FAQs
Who participates? Every child that attends New Prospect will have 1 piece of artwork framed.
When and Where? The night of Spring Showcase (5/14) from 5:30-7:30 in the Gym.
Can I pay with a credit card? Unfortunately, no. We are only able to take cash and checks made payable to New Prospect.
How much is the frame? Each frame costs $25 (the artwork is free and belongs to your child).
What happens if the framed artwork is not purchased? You are under NO OBLIGATION to buy. After the show, the artwork will be taken out of the frame, mailed back to the school and sent home with your child.
How does the money raised benefit the Art studio? A portion of each frame sold, goes towards Art supplies.
Can I pre-buy the artwork? Yes, please send your payment in to your child’s teacher before the show. The artwork will be displayed during the show and I will send it home with the student the day after the show. Or you can pick it up the night of the show (it will be marked with a sold tag) and you can avoid standing in the payment line.
Can I buy the artwork after the show? Unfortunately, we cannot do any post sales because our show is so close to the end of the year.
Why do I host an Art Show? Students work hard in Art all year and are excited to showcase their best work. I host the show so students can take pride in coming to see their Art displayed.
If you would like to keep up with what is happening at the Art Studio please check out my twitter account and website. If you have questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thanks for your support of the Arts,

Media Center with Mrs. Bercher
Kindergarten ……We read "If You Give a Mouse a Brownie" by Laura Numeroff, and discussed the mindset stances that we saw in the book. Students had the option of checking out books and/or using Makerspace items.
1st grade ……. We read "Those Shoes" by Maribeth Boelts, discussed empathy, and reviewed finding books in the media center through Destiny, our online patron catalog (this is found on Launchpad). Students chose either to check out books or to explore Makerspace items.
2nd: We read "Each Kindness" by Jacqueline Woodson, discussed empathy, and reviewed finding books in the media center through Destiny, our online patron catalog (this is found on Launchpad). Students chose either to check out books or to explore Makerspace items.
3rd grade ……We read "Yo! Yes!" by Chris Raschka, and discussed the mindset stances that we saw in the book and differences/similarities between the two characters. Students had the option of checking out books and/or using Makerspace items.
4th grade ….. We reviewed reference materials in preparation for Milestones, and students visited stations set up with atlases, almanacs, dictionaries, thesaurus, and enclopedias for students to review. Most students had time to check out and/or tried Makerspace items.
5th grade: I led a Novel Engineering lesson that included a read aloud, “There's an Alligator Under My Bed” by Mercer Mayer. We discussed the story and used Makerspace items to design possible solutions to the problem in the story. Students had time to check out.
Overdue Books………the end of the school is near, so please be aware that any books that are lost must paid for. If your child has received an overdue notice, please help him/her look for the book at home before sending in any payments. Thank you.
Please pick up medication before May 23rd from the Clinic!
All medication left in the clinic after school dismisses on May 23, 2019 will be disposed of. Please pick up your child’s medication!
ATTENTION ALL 3rd, 4th AND 5th GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS
This year students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 at New Prospect Elementary will participate in the Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) assessment. The testing window for 4th graders will be from Monday, May 6 until Friday, May 10.
This year the tests will be spread out over more days, but students will test for a shorter time each day. Testing will begin at 7:50am daily and will conclude around 9:30am. The testing times vary depending on which assessment students are taking.
The GA Milestones will measure how well students have mastered the state-adopted content standards. Students in all grades will be assessed in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Only students in Grade 5 will be administered the Science and Social Studies tests.
The Georgia Milestones assessments serve as a key component of the state’s accountability system, College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). The state law requires students in Grade 3 to pass the reading and students in Grade 5 to pass the reading and math portions of the assessment as a determining factor for promotion or retention. As soon as the state releases results, we will communicate with families of students in Grades 3 or 5 if their child did not pass one or more portions of the assessment.
Teachers will continue to work with students on the rigor required of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). This includes preparing students to answer complex questions and to explain their responses by providing supporting evidence and proof from different sources of text. We also give diagnostic assessments to help us identify areas where students need additional instruction prior to the Milestones assessments. For additional study/resource guides, please visit the following link:
http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Assessment/Pages/EOG-Study-Resource-Guides.aspx . Your child can also take practice EOG assessments to help familiarize them with the testing platform and tools at http://gaexperienceonline.com/. The practice test needs to be accessed through Google Chrome or Safari.
To help you plan, our testing dates are as follows:
End of Grade (EOG)
May 6 EOG Reading and Evidence Based Writing – Grade 4
May 7-8 EOG ELA – Grade 4
May 9-10 EOG Math - Grade 4
May 13-14 EOG Make-up Days - Grade 4
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and/or Mrs. Haga, haga@fultonschools.org, our school test coordinator.
