SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAMS SHINE AT STATE COMPETITION
Congrats to the CCMS and PHS Science Olympiad teams! They competed at State Science Olympiad at Westminster College this month. Plattsburg was the smallest school that competed as a team. CCMS finished 4th and PHS finished 10th out of thirty two teams. PHS took first in Air Trajectory, Bridge Building, and Wright Stuff and took 5th in Robot Arm and Geologic Mapping. CCMS took 1st in Bridge building, 2nd in Green Generation and Scrambler, 4th in Bottle Rockets, Mission Possible, and Road Scholar, 5th in Meteorology and Anatomy & Physiology, 6th in Experimental Design, and 7th in Food Science, Fossils, and Write It Do It.
Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events in each division (Division B is middle school; Division C is high school). Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. Through Science Olympiad, students, teachers, parents, principals and business leaders bond together and work toward a shared goal.
Science Olympiad is available to students at the middle school and high school level at CCR3. Tryouts for the teams are held in the fall. Thank you to our dedicated sponsors, Beth Garr and Wendy Parrish, and to the volunteers who make our Science Olympiad team a BIG success!!
