Conservancy Kids
We bring the Sonoran Desert to you!
Welcome to Conservancy Kids!
We are so excited to have you with us on this virtual journey of inquiry and place-based learning! Right now we may be social distancing, but we're all connected by the awesomeness of science. We're junior scientists, exploring the natural world, asking questions, and making discoveries. Join us for an adventure that will take you outdoors, around the house, and into the incredible Sonoran Desert. Welcome to Conservancy Kids! We're excited to see you!
Fire in the Desert
It's hot, it's dry, it's wildfire season in Arizona! While we wait for the monsoon rains, this landscape becomes the perfect setting for blazing fires. Nine out of ten wildfires are started because of human actions, so it's up to all of us to protect our incredible Sonoran Desert.
Fire in the Desert
Help Prevent Desert Wildfires
The Bush fire started in mid-June and has burned over 193,455 acres of desert near the Superstition mountains. That's about the same size as New York City--a huge amount of land! This fire is now one of the five largest fires in Arizona's history. Mary Fastiggi, Parsons Field Institute Coordinator, joins us today to talk about why wildfires are so devastating for the desert ecosystem and what we can do to help prevent them.
