Meet Ms. Irma Hadzajilic
Meet Ms. Rachel Warwick - HSE Alumna and HSE Teacher
It is hard to imagine what my life would be like without the influence of Harmony and, specifically, Harmony School of Excellence. My journey with Harmony began in 2008 when I started my 5th-grade year as a student, eager to be an HSE Tiger. Until then, I had never encountered all of the cultures, experiences, and friendships that Harmony had to offer. HSE was a glimpse into what the real world around me actually looked like. I was blessed to be so prepared for High School and then even College through all of my time at HSE. I valued working and learning with others that had different cultures, languages, and beliefs than mine.
Attending college at Texas State University wasn't much different than all of my experiences attending a Harmony school. People around me were different than me in more ways than one. As a student in the College of Education, I worked with children from all kinds of backgrounds and families. That is what I had valued for so long previously. In 2019 I walked the stage with my diploma and moved back home to Houston to begin my student teaching, not knowing that less than 3 months later, my life and the whole world would be changed by COVID-19. My student teaching was cut short, and I was left feeling unprepared to begin my journey as a teacher. While applying for jobs, I drove by my alma mater, HSE, and saw signs promoting college and life readiness, remembering that HSE is the reason that I felt able to conquer life and the challenges that came my way. I went home and immediately applied for many teaching jobs with Harmony. Other schools in the area were not hiring due to the pandemic, but Harmony was. I was given the opportunity to teach Kindergarten and never looked back. And now, I am teaching at the very school that gave me the confidence to reach my goals! I teach in the very classroom where I had my 5th-grade math class. I know my journey is far from over, but I am beyond grateful to continue that journey with Harmony, knowing I can go far.
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY (NJHS)
NJHS (National Juniors Honor Society) is an elite program that empowers students to learn real life skills for their future. There are strict requirements to be able to join as well as to be able to stay. These students have shown excellent scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. We had our Induction Ceremony on October 10th and our official first meeting on October 17th. We will be voting for our office chairs on October 31st and can't wait to hear the speech the candidates have prepared. We are both so very proud of this year's NJHS students and look forward to seeing them grow and help make our community a better place to live! Congratulations to this year's NJHS students!!!

FALL READING CHALLENGE
We are excited to kick off our Fall Reading Challenge! The linked document explains all details of the challenge and includes the Google Form for 3rd-7th grade to complete for each book that is read. While there are prizes available for students (and for teachers!), ultimately, we want each student to develop a love of reading.
Additionally, research shows that daily reading helps to improve brain connectivity, increases vocabulary and comprehension, and aids in preventing cognitive decline as you age.

NATIONAL SCHOOL OF CHARACTER
Message from our Admin
Hello HSE Family,
For morning drop off, we're requiring all parents to stay in their car and follow morning drop off either in the front of the school or the North arrival area.
Please do not park in the campus area to walk your students. Parents are supposed to stay in their cars and drive to the drop-off areas so that students can get out of the cars.
For the safety of our students and yours, please do not park on Brook River Drive and walk your child across Gessner Road. Gessner Road is a very busy road with a set speed limit of 40 MPH. Also, DO NOT STOP AND DROP YOUR CHILD OFF GESSNER ROAD! Thank you for understanding!
We will keep the first U-Turn open when you come from Gessner Rd (It was closed today but it will not be closed again). Please do not use the second U-Turn and please do not cut in line.
We will have a police officer several days a week to reinforce these issues.
Have a good day!
NO STUDENT DROP-OFF IS ALLOWED BEFORE 7:00AM!
8th Graders and HSE HS Students who are dropped off in the morning
Dear Parents, please drop your 8th grader(s) or high schooler(s) off next to the side walk (which is the 3rd lane,-rightmost lane or outer lane). It keeps the traffic flowing and makes a shorter distance for the students to get to the sidewalk. After dropping them off, parents will still take the 3rd lane to drop off their HSE elem/middle school students at the North drop-off.
Dismissal for High School Siblings
Effective Tuesday, September 6, 2022, if you have children that attend both at HSE Elementary campus and at HSE High campus, dismissal will be from HSE High instead of HSE Elementary.
How will this work:
- Three employees from Harmony School of Excellence Elementary campus will gather the students at 3:10 P.M. At 3:15 P.M., the students will start to walk to HSE High by utilizing the soccer field.
- You may pick up your child between the hours of 3:30 P.M. – 3:40 P.M. utilizing the car tag that was assigned to you at the beginning of the school year on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from HSE High.
- On Wednesdays you will pick up your child between the hours of 2:40 P.M.- 2:50 P.M. from HSE High.
- Please note, if we have inclement weather such as rain, hail, lightning, etc, you will have to go to both campuses to pick up your child. If your child has a club at HSE K-7, you will need to pick up your child on that day from the HSE Elementary campus.
If your child attends Harmony School of Advancement and they ONLY have a sibling at HSE Elementary campus, you will pick the students up at HSE Elementary campus from the North dismissal area.
If your child attends both HSE campuses you will pick them up at HSE High.
Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, we decided to make this change in order to have a smoother and faster dismissal for both campuses.
Please email mgordon@harmonytx.org or tiffany.foster@harmonytx.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Dismissal Time Reminder
Reminders to parents regarding Late Pickup
Late Pickup area will be at the Kindergarten-1st Grade dismissal area on the side of the school. Parents, you will have to get out of your car, walk to the door, and sign your child out before a Harmony employee releases your child.
Advancement Siblings Pickup Reminder
Club Dismissal Information
Parents, you will come to pick up your child once their after school club is over at the Kindergarten-1st grade dismissal area. Please note, you will have a 10 minute grace period to pick up your child. For example: if the club ends at 4:00 P.M. you will have until 4:10 P.M. to pick up your child. If you do not pick your child up on time, you will have to come to the same area to pick up your child but will follow the late pick up expectations. If your child is picked up late three times, your child will not be allowed to participate in the club anymore and refunds will not be given. Please reference the map below.
