Empty Nest...

“The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without a teacher.”
Elbert Hubbard

The time is fast approaching when our seniors will graduate and we will start the whole process over again. Such is the cycle of education, the educator, and the educated. The end goal is to help our students get along without us. We have to foster in them not just an academic understanding of the world that they are about to enter, but a human understanding as well. Through our interaction with students, our delivery of instruction, and our own actions, our students are better prepared to get along without us. I know that our PHS staff gives our students the best opportunity to be successful as they leave us and venture out into that great big world, and for that, I thank you!

PHS Spotlight: Mrs. McKinney

The title counselor is a lot like the term educator...it is one word that has many different meanings and comes with many different responsibilities. A lot of those responsibilities for our PHS Counselor are taking center stage this time of year. Mrs. McKinney has been and will be administering tests from now until the end of the month. These include our ACT suite, our AP exams, and our Senior Finals. Additionally, Mrs. McKinney is busy registering our existing students as well as our incoming 8th graders, soon to be freshmen. Following that comes conflict matrices, adjustment of the master schedule, evaluation of class sizes and sections, and on and on...in the meantime, she also does a fantastic role fulfilling her role of counselor and DJ. Mrs. McKinney, proud PHS alum-check out her picture Class of 2005, has helped to enhance our school culture and provide the guidance that our students need as they plan out their future.
