Lincoln Elementary Weekly Update

Message From Mrs. K

Greetings!

I hope you are all able to enjoy this beautiful fall afternoon. Today your student(s) should be bringing home a printed report card. I wanted to make you aware that we’ve been taking some extra time this fall to focus on the social-emotional wellbeing of our students. The trauma of an abruptly-ended school year affected our students differently, and children needed some extra time to adjust to being back in a fully structured day. Because of this important work and the time needed to work on skills lost from last year, teachers were not able to stay on what would be a typical timeline or pace and that may be reflected in the report cards. We believe that, with the strong foundation we are providing this fall, our students will grow as anticipated yet this year.

Parent-Teacher conferences are just around the corner and we’ll all be newcomers to the process of elementary conferences in a virtual format. It may be a little bumpy at times, but here are a few suggestions for making it as smooth as possible:

  • If your child has come home with an envelope or folder with materials inside, please have that handy before your conference begins.

  • For accessing your conference link, there are two possibilities: if you clicked to add the link to a Google, iCal, or Outlook, you should be able to access a link on that calendar. Alternatively, you can search your email inbox for an email that begins with “Confirmed:” Inside that email, you should see a blue link that reads, “Join now.” See the image below for additional help.

  • Please get set up and access the conference link a few minutes before your conference begins. Check your volume and camera settings as you wait.

  • Conference slots are limited to 20 minutes so that teachers are able to provide a conference for every student’s family. Please be mindful of the time and ask to follow up with your child’s teacher if you need additional time.

  • The teacher will need to accept you into the Google Meet conference so, if you haven’t been allowed to join yet, the teacher is probably not quite done with the conference before.

  • If you are waiting for your conference to begin, please know that the teacher is doing their very best to get to your conference on time.

Again, teachers enjoy their time with you during conferences and we appreciate your flexibility in making this a safe process for all of us. We are definitely looking forward to the time when conferences can feel normal again! As always, please reach out to the office or to me directly if you have any questions or need support.

In partnership,

-Mrs. Kirkwold

Student Masks

If possible, please add a "back up" mask to your child's backpack. Masks can get dirty or lost though out the day, and having a back up mask is very helpful.

Absences

To report an absence, please call or email the Lincoln office (contact information at the bottom, also linked on our Lincoln home page). You can alert the classroom teacher if you wish, but they will not be responsible for reporting absences to our office and nurse. When you call or email to report an absence, please include symptoms so that our nurse can follow up with you as needed.
