Mentone Continues to Collect Plastic Caps for Bench!
Friday Morning LIVE Continues in 2015!
As a part of our Positive Behavior Intervention System, Mentone Elementary staff members hand out Bulldog Bucks to students that demonstrate our three core behavior beliefs, Responsibility, Safety and Respect. Once a week we hold a drawing of all of the Bulldogs Bucks handed out in a week. Three students from each grade level are drawn and these students are recognized at our Friday Morning Live assemblies each month. If your student’s Bulldog Buck is drawn, you will receive a parent letter that states when your child will be recognized. We would like you or someone from your family to attend the assembly if possible. This positive recognition of great behavior has lowered the number of discipline referrals that come to the office. Please continue to encourage your child to be respectful, responsible and safe at school and at home.
Mentone Officers Award the Above and Beyond Awards
Officer Jim Eades and Officer Terry Engstrand want to recognize Mentone students that not just have good behavior but those that go above and beyond at school. The two decided to ask Mentone businesses to get involved by donating a prize to be awarded to the students along with a certificate. A student from each grade level will be selected each month by the classroom teachers for this award. December winners received a free pizza from Wilby’s Mini Mart, Mentone.

Kiwanis Club Sponsors B.U.G. Awards for Mentone Elementary
Our local Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the B.U.G. Program this year at MES. B.U.G., or Bringing Up Grades, is a national Kiwanis program to motivate student achievement. At the end of the second nine weeks, teachers will identify students that raised classroom grades. If a student raises a grade in just one subject, he or she will be a B.U.G Award winner! Certificates for the 2nd nine weeks award winners will be presented on January 23rd at the Friday Morning LIVE celebration. Each 9 weeks that a student achieves a B.U.G Award, he or she has a chance to win a bicycle at an end of the year drawing. The bicycles are also sponsored by our Kiwanis Club and are currently displayed in our front show case. Please encourage your child to raise his or her grades and thank a Kiwanis member for supporting our achievement here at Mentone Elementary School.
Winter Coats Needed For Recess
The seasons have definitely changed and we have a number of students that are not wearing coats out to recess. Please encourage your child to wear warm outerwear that meets the weather of the day. We also have a growing number of coats being left in lost and found. If your child has misplaced a coat, please have them check the lost and found items in the cafeteria. If you stop by the school you can also check the lost and found box. Students will go out to recess unless the wind chill temperature drops below 10 degrees. Please make sure that your student has a coat, gloves, hat and other winter attire suitable to play outside.
