President's Update
Thank you to Dave Farwell, McKinley Mile Chair, and his team of volunteers as well as everyone who participated in last week's McKinley Mile family walk/run event! It was wonderful to see the smiles on all everyone's faces as they warmed up all the way through to crossing the finish line. The McKinley Mile is not only a wonderful event for families to participate in together, it's also a fantastic representation of McKinley throughout the community.
Also, Spirit Wear orders will be in this week. Look for your order coming home with the child indicated on your order form.
Have a great week!

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY IS
THIS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH
WHAT IS WALK TO SCHOOL DAY? Walk to school day is celebrated around the WORLD! To date, close to 5,000 schools in the United States have registered, all states are represented, and there are 93 schools registered in Wisconsin. We walk to show support for the benefits of walking to school. This event is a great way to celebrate the joy and independence of walking to school and brings our school community together for a common purpose
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WALKING TO SCHOOL?
Healthier lifestyle, Cleaner environment, Learn safety skills, Connection to the Community… the list goes on.
WE LIVE TOO FAR TO WALK OR I NEED TO GET TO WORK. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?
McKinley Elementary will have 9 Walking School Buses led by McKinley teachers, staff, and local community leaders. Students can be dropped off or joined by a parent or caregiver and join the walking bus for a trip to school! You can join the bus anywhere along the route. All students on the route will receive a small prize for riding the bus! To view the Walking School Bus, click HERE. PLEASE NOTE ONE ADDITION TO ROUTE 3.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE PLANNED?
We are excited to have apples, provided by Dan Ludwig and Amy Standal of Firefly Real Estate and an all school assembly on the playground featuring the McKinley Students performance of the Pedestrian Safety Dance led by Susan Merriman! Families are encouraged to attend.

Wednesday Oct. 25th 11:00-4:00
Thursday Oct. 26th 3:00-8:00
Friday Oct. 27th 8:30-12:00
Come join us after school or during parent-teacher conferences and see what the Scholastic book fair has to offer! Check out the teacher wish list board and donate a book to your child’s classroom.
Don’t forget that anyone (generous loved ones can purchase gifts from your child’s wish list) can also shop the online book fair (scholastic.com/fair) from 10/19 – 11/1. There are many titles to choose from and shipping is free to school. And, best of all, purchases benefit our school.
CLASSROOM COIN COMPETITION OCT 11th -25th
Students can bring in spare change to purchase books for our McKinley classroom libraries. In addition, Scholastic will match dollar for dollar to purchase books for Kids in Need Foundation, Reader to Reader, Inc., and the National Center for Families Learning. The classroom to raise the most money wins a popcorn/movie party! Good luck!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid #12 The Getaway is available to pre-order for $8.99 this week. This is a specially priced paperback edition (hardcover $13.95 elsewhere). Order forms are located in office and can be returned to the office or the fair. Books will be delivered to classrooms the second week of November.
Thanks to those who have signed up to help with the fair, but many volunteers are still needed, especially right after school. No experience necessary and shopping on the job is encouraged! Click HERE to sign up to volunteer or contact Maura Riordan (riordanmaura@yahoo.com or 414-704-1263) with your availability.
