Hillsboro - Title 6
Native American/Alaska Native Education Program
February2022
Welcome to the Second Semester!
We hope your students are off to a strong start. Homework clubs and tutors are now available! If you need to find out more information about how to access these resources contact our staff so we can get you connected. Our Title 6 staff continues to build stronger networks and relationships with school building staff and administrators who want to help our Native students succeed.
We had the BEST turnout at our last NA/AN Parent Advisory Committing (PAC) meeting this month! Thank you to all of you who made it to the virtual meeting. We LOVE this community! Unfortunately, the meeting was not recorded. I will send out meeting minutes that will have the slides and presentations linked in the document. Staff from the District Communication team showed our families a short video on how to access information on the district webpage. They will be back to gather our input on how to improve their approach to communicating information. Anya Hershberger with Early College High School Program shared valuable information about this amazing program. We wrapped up the meeting with, many of our own parents within our T6 community sharing their upcoming events for our students and families. I have attached the flyers to this month's newsletter.
Mark your calendars for the next Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 6:30 PM. This is your opportunity to meet other Native families across the district and hear about the resource(s) in HSD and the community. We hope to see you there!
If you need access to tutoring, College & Career resources, classroom curriculum, or want to help bring speakers to our meetings? Please reach out to our Title 6 team. We are happy to help!
In Solidarity,
Daria, Jenny, and Catherine

Movie Spotlight - Run to Be Visible
This film is 18 -minutes and inspiring!!
Lydia Jennings is a member of the Huichol (Wixaritari) and Pascua Yaqui (Yoeme) Nations and holds a doctorate in soil microbiology. Her work is dedicated to environmental science and the essential role of Indigenous communities in these spaces. Her hope is to create more inclusive academic and environmental landscapes. In place of her graduation, which was canceled as a result of the pandemic, Lydia instead celebrated by running 50 miles in honor of the Indigenous scientists and knowledge keepers who came before her. It’s a run to honor the past and present while looking towards the future.
