Graduation 2020
May 22, 2020
General Information
As discussed in the graduate/parent meeting, Adrian High School plans to celebrate our graduates on Friday, May 22. After receiving the guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Education on Friday, we have been working with the City of Adrian, Shawn Langseth, and Sheriff Kent Wilkening to finalize our plans. Below you will see information for the parade, our virtual ceremony, and other important topics related to graduation. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at (507)483-2232 or c.koehne@isd511.net.
Diplomas and Parade
At 7:00 pm Friday, May 22, 2020, the graduates will receive their diplomas and participate in a parade through the city of Adrian.
- Please gather in your reserved (alphabetical) parking spot between 6:45-7:00pm. Each parking spot will be marked with a name sign for ease in parking. Graduates are encouraged to drive by the Assisted Living and Nursing Home on your way to school.
- Each family will be allowed one vehicle (in the case of separated families, a second car can be requested - contact Mrs. Koehne for details). All passengers must remain in their cars for the opening ceremony and the entire parade.
- The actual diploma distribution will be livestreamed to our Facebook page, so spectators can see it from their homes, cars, or along the parade route.
- For purposes of the parade, we would like to recommend a pick up if at all possible, with the graduate in the back. If you need help gaining access to a pick up, please call Mrs. Koehne to see if we can set one up. If you have pick options for classmates, please call as well.
- Graduate must be in the front passenger seat or the back of the pick up. Absolutely no riding on the hood or roof of a vehicle (per local law enforcement).
- Families are encouraged to decorate the vehicle with the graduate's name in bold colors and font so people along the parade route can know who is in the car. There will also be a sign with the student's name at each parking spot that could be decorated.
- New Parade Route: The parade route will be around the school, down Indiana Ave, and through the lower park and ball fields, but according to state guidance, all spectators MUST REMAIN IN THEIR CARS. Law enforcement has indicated that families could decorate their vehicles along the route.
- All music, announcements, names, etc. will be broadcast to your car through the local Radioworks radio station.
- After the parade ends, students/families SHOULD NOT return to the school to gather.
Virtual Ceremony
A virtual ceremony will be played on Facebook and a link will be made available to all families. The virtual ceremony will include traditional pieces of our graduation including:
- Welcome by our Salutatorian

- Memories Video
- Memories speech given by graduates ranking 3, 4, and 5
- Message from Mrs. Koehne

Caps and Gown Distribution
Caps and gowns will be distributed by the front office. They are expected Friday, May 15th. Please be watching for a message when they will be ready for curbside pickup.
Student Speeches
Students in the top 5-6 will be informed of their position in the week of May 11th. At that time, they will begin working on the respective speeches. The top 5 will be announced on Tuesday, May 19th. All speeches will be recorded on May 20-21st to be included in the virtual graduation ceremony.
Survey
All graduates and families should be receiving a Google Forms Survey regarding information we need for planning this unique graduation event. Please take the time to complete the survey as soon as possible.
Picture in Your Cap and Gown
Please send us a picture of each graduate in your cap and gown. If at all possible, we would like to have them by Thursday, May 21st so they could be incorporated in the virtual ceremony if at all possible.
Lunch Accounts/Bills
If any seniors have outstanding lunch balances or bills for supplies, they need to be paid by the end of the year. Please make arrangements with the office or Sarah Lenz to get these balances paid.
