Mariner Memo
October 11, 2019
Tonight is the big game between the Mariners and the Saints and school spirit was in the air. It was wonderful to see all of our students in their orange and black and we are excited for a great game tonight.
On the middle school sports front, the seasons are winding down with the cross-country teams running their final meet tonight, the volleyball team entering into their last week of competition, and the football team closing out in the next weeks. It has been a great fall season and is quite neat to see all of our students decked out in their Mariner uniforms. The end of the fall season is sad, but it does remind us that the split winter seasons are soon upon us. Keep an eye out in the announcements and in future newsletters for winter sport tryout information.
Just a reminder about the schedule next week...Parent-Teacher Conferences are on Wednesday and Thursday. Students will have full days of school Monday through Wednesday and a half day of school on Thursday. There will not be school on Friday, October 18th. Conferences are:

This Mariner Memo is packed with great information, student recognition, and other positive things coming out of MCMS. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend.

Harpoon Club
Students selected for the Harpoon Club need guidance and support for their organization and receive that weekly (and sometimes more often) from Mr. Scheel. He provides the school connection and parents provide the home connection with the understanding being that students achieve higher when school and home work together. The Harpoon Club has had some remarkable results in decreasing the number of missing student assignments and increasing the number of passing grades for students. Listed below are a couple of pieces of data in support of the success of the Harpoon Club.
For the 6th grade:
- Consistent Parent Signatures: Average grade is 78% with 7 total missing assignments
- Intermittent Parent Signatures: Average grade is 77% with 18 total missing assignments

Next week in P2, we will shift our focus back to the Other People Matter mindset, with a focus on being present and giving others our attention. So often is the case these days with the prevalence of cell phones that we do not truly enjoy the company of others. Ironically enough, we often turn away from those around us to seek the gratification of a personal connection that is transmitted through our phones. P2 this week will hone in on being engaged with who you are with and enjoying the moment, an important lesson for all of us.
