Athletics Update
Spring 2021
Spring Intramural Athletics
February 2021
Dear Plano Middle School Families,
We have some information to share about athletics offerings here at Plano Middle School. Near the end of January, the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) and Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) put out updated guidance for youth athletics. Upon reviewing the information and examining our current reality, it has been determined that we will not be running interscholastic athletics seasons for the remaining sports seasons this school year. However, we are happy to share that we have developed a plan that will allow us to offer a variety of athletic opportunities for our students in the form of intramurals programs. This plan will allow us to offer athletics for all of the sports seasons that were canceled, allow us to continue supporting the development of athletes as they progress towards high school experiences, and provide students with extracurricular options so that they have the option of connecting with school beyond the standard school day.
The schedule of intramural seasons for this year is outlined below. As it always is, the safety of students and staff members is our top priority, and we will implement health and safety protocols in order to ensure that intramural opportunities are conducted in a safe manner that complies with the health and safety guidelines provided to us by the IESA and IDPH. A bulleted summary of those items can be found near the end of this communication, and more detailed information from the IDPH can be found on their webpage by using this link.
Finally, here are a few items that will be required in order for interested students to participate. These items MUST be completed and submitted to the school in order to be considered to be selected for any intramural wishing to be joined. Please understand that, in order to adhere to health and safety guidelines to the best of our abilities, participant numbers for each intramural will be limited; there is no guarantee that a student who signs up will be selected to participate in any given intramural. There is no fee for intramurals, and a sports physical is not required for intramurals participation like it would be for our traditional athletic programs.
If you have any questions related to our upcoming intramurals offerings, please feel free to contact Dan Solecki, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, by email at dsolecki@plano88.org or by phone at 630-552-3608. We look forward to some upcoming safe and successful athletics opportunities!
Items that must be completed and submitted in order to participate:
COVID-19 Athletics Waiver: (signed by both student and parent) You may either email this to dsolecki@plano88.org or send a paper copy to school with your child and ask them to turn it in to the Main Office. A DIGITAL COPY can be found HERE.
Self-Certification Symptoms Screening Acknowledgement: This is completed through your PowerSchool school registration portal. You may have already completed this; if you have not, it is also required for participation as the athlete will be entering school facilities and will be responsible for conducting self-screening before attending.
Google Form / Sign Up: This will be shared out for each intramural program in advance based on the intramural season schedule shared below. Participants will be selected from the submissions to this Google Form for each intramural season.
Please Note: Not everyone who signs up may be selected due to group size limits that must be put in place to maintain a safe environment for coaches and athletes. Those who are selected will be notified that they were selected and added to the roster.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Note: HERE is a link to IDPH Sports Safety Guidance. Plano Middle School will adhere to the health and safety guidelines outlined within that document along with any additional local guidelines regardless of which option is implemented.
A summary of health and safety items that will be implemented:
Participant numbers will be limited in order to reduce the risk of transmission and allow for appropriate safety measures to occur. Practices will be staggered and teams split (7th grade at one time, 8th grade at another) to allow for fewer people in a space at one time as well. Times will be staggered to allow for sanitation to occur between sessions.
Participants and their parents/guardians must sign the District’s COVID-19 Release of Liability Waiver. Participation will not be allowed unless this is completed and on file with the school.
Participants, via their parents/guardians must have a completed Self-Certification form on file with the school. Participation will not be allowed unless this is completed and on file with the school.
Participants must conduct self-certification prior to participating each day and notify the school if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (if they are experiencing symptoms, they should not attend until released to do so by the Nurse).
Masks will be required to be worn upon entry.
Upon entry, athletes will need to sanitize their hands.
Coaches will conduct temperature checks of all participants upon arrival and follow our health protocols in the event that an athlete has a temperature above 100.4 degrees.
Coaches will maintain an activity roster and will be responsible for keeping track of daily attendance via documentation in the event that contact tracing must occur.
Masks must be worn at all times by athletes, coaches, and activity-related personnel
Athletes must have their own water bottles and can use the bottle filling stations to fill. No sharing of bottles, towels, etc. are allowed.
Eating will be prohibited.
Social distancing, spreading out of individuals, and limiting the amount of athlete-to-athlete contact as much as possible will be enforced
Athletes will be advised not to share any materials or belongings (bottles, phones, apparel, shoes, etc.).
Locker rooms will be closed. The restrooms branching off the main hallways will be open for use.
Regular sanitation will occur throughout the activity. Participants will be encouraged to use hand sanitizer regularly, as it is readily available throughout our gym and building. Sanitation of equipment will also be performed prior to, and at the conclusion of, the session.
At the conclusion of the athletic event, athletes will be encouraged to sanitize their hands before leaving.
No outside spectators or non-activity related people will be allowed to attend events or be allowed into the building. This will be necessary for the health and safety of our athletes and related personnel. It will also help us better comply with regulating gathering numbers. Additionally, it will lower the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19 within our facilities and student/staff population.
Spring Intramurals
Febrero 2021

HEALTH AND SAFETY
